Given the success that Miami had against Georgia Tech last weekend, it?s a certainty that the Yellow Jackets will be seeing more zone defenses.
Georgia Tech (10-8, 1-4 ACC) travels Tuesday to Boston College (5-13, 1-4) for a 9 p.m. ESPNU game. The Yellow Jackets play four of their next five games on the road.
To beat the zone, the Yellow Jackets must either shoot the ball better from the perimeter or be more astute working the basketball inside to the big men. Neither worked in a 56-42 loss to Miami; Georgia Tech shot only 29.5 percent from the floor and had only 12 points in the paint.
?We?ve got to get back to practice with whomever we?ve got healthy at this point and go out there and make sure we compete and a much higher level than we did (against Miami),? head coach Brian Gregory said. ?We?ve got to shoot the ball better. We?ve got to move the ball better, and we?ve got to just keep plugging away.?
The outside shooters have not been getting it done. Trae Golden (42.1 percent), Chris Bolden (23.8 percent), Jason Morris (28.6 percent) and Solomon Poole (38.8 percent) have had their troubles connecting from the field.
?When you don?t have a great shooting team and you play against a zone, you?ve got to get inside that zone,? Gregory said. ?When we did that, if you don?t score at least you have the chance for an offensive rebound.?
So Georgia Tech must convert more often when it gets the ball down low to Daniel Miller or Kammeon Holsey. Against Miami, Miller had only five shots; he kicked the ball several times and Gregory wants the big senior to be more aggressive. Likewise, Marcus Georges-Hunt will be expected to handle a bigger offensive load.
?Dan and Marcus our two of our key guys, obviously,? Gregory said. ?We need Marcus to play much better and we need Daniel to play much better -- especially in the situation we?re in. Daniel has got to get more than five shots. When he gets the ball in the paint, we need him to be more aggressive and score. Hopefully he?ll see that when we show it to him on the film, and he?ll understand for the rest of the season he should be getting nine, 12, 13-or-14 shots a game.?

The Eagles are led by sophomore guard Olivier Hanlan, who averages 18.9 points, and junior forward Ryan Anderson, who averages 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds. Hanlan has scored in double figures in 17 of 18 games and Anderson had a double-double Saturday against North Carolina.
