Two fools argued about global warming in front of me in line at the burrito joint this morning. The leftist bitched about how we are ruining the planet. The righty believes it is all a hoax.

My take is that it should not matter. Everyone (left and right) has to be alarmed that we are borrowing a billion $ daily to feed out energy needs with foreign oil. Whether or not global warming exists, we should move in the direction of alternative fuel sources. Electric and hydrogen-fuled cars, solar, wind and nuclear energy. If we attack the energy crisis in this manner, then we're winners either way. Either we save the planet from the doom being preached by the left, or we will be less dependant on foreing oil, with a stronger GDP and more available jobs.

Seems easy to me. Take money that we are spending occupying foreign soil, and focus it on alternative fuel in the same manner that we focused on the space program decades ago.

Seems easy to me too, but -

A significant proportion of voters think we rightly should maintain a strong world-wide military presence (the same folks who cheer at old John Wayne movies and think he was a hero rather than a grade-B actor).

And, a substantial majority of members of Congress have their hands buried deep in the pockets of defense contractors and oil companies.

Eisenhower knew and he warned us.

You could run for office on a platform of drastic cuts in defense and similar increases in alternate energy spending. Maybe you could win Vermont, small parts of Maine, and the less populated counties in ND. You'd make a smaller mark than Eugene V. Debs.

Sad, sad, sad, but true.

What kind of burrito did you have ?

Why drag John Wayne into the discussion?

I had a flying burrito from a local place called Juan's. I normally go with a veggie burrito, but today went with steak, black beans, fresh jalapeno, onion, pico, tomato, more pico, roasted corn and a squirt of lime juice on wheat tortilla. Went down very well !

Chased with a cold one or a lemonade?

It's amazing how different Mexican food is different from each state, the best I have had is New Mexico, place called Chuy's, it's on John Madden's list of places to go. :0074

I had to pull over and sleep for 3 hours after eating there. :0008

I can assure you the Mexican is better in your area than mine. Taco trucks and stands sprouted up during the mass rebuilding following Katrina. Many are still around and they put put out tasty carnita tacos and other authentic choices....

This joint I hit today is an americanized mex place. Tasty, but not authentic.

too early in the week for me to booze with lunch. Iced tea today.....

I used to hate Mexican food - the crap served at the Mex joints around here.

Then I went to Sante Fe and ate at the Ole Mexico Grille. Lamb Tacos - if there's anything better on earth...............

You should see some of the Mexican food up here.. Very bland.. Many people here think that Ketchup is too spicy:mj07:

Everytime I go to the Twin Cities, I have to gind Chipotle..

Yah, yah, yah. You Norwegians and Swedes think boiled fish and boiled potatoes is haute cuisine. My grandfather was fresh off the boat from Norway, and he thought fried chicken was exotic.

I've got a Mexican joint in my neighborhood. Owned and run by Mexicans, yet it's the blandest Mexican food I've ever eaten. Maybe they just serve it that way to us gringos... :142smilie

There are so many great places around here to dine at. Palm Springs, duh ! offers so much for dining, the coast is only 2 hours away so al the sea food is trucked in fresh. The best Authentic Mexican food are the places that look like you wouldn't go into for a rock fight fight, it gets difficult not to get hung up on a certain dish.

Nice post, too bad the imbeciles on right and left can't get away from polar opposites to have conversations like this. I can't even stand either party. They are pathetic.
