this will be csu's biggest crowd since the fab five came in to cleveland in the early 90's.
i think the score of csu's last game (a 97-88 win) was a deceptive in terms of tempo. youd think that csu was playing for billy tubbs, but that game was so weird. both teams shot an obscene amount of free throws. csu attempted a school-record 64 free throws. basically officiating was so ridiculously tight that game had no fluidity to it and not as up-and-down as the score would indicate
with garland being a tom izzo understudy, hes going to try to establish an aggressive defensive program at csu. rollie did a good job in that respect. that much he should get credit for. csu's defensive principles are normally solid.
normally csu has trouble scoring, but plays excellent defense.
thats really my only concern with csu here. carolinas defensive intensity vs davidson was impressive. obviously an inferior opponent that game, but still impressed with the way they got after it.
carolina still young. sometimes these homecoming games (in this case for jawad williams) -- they dont always go as planned. sometimes the power team expects a cakewalk and ends up with somewhat of a struggle
this game is going to be won and lost with tempo. i dont think csu can go up and down the floor with carolina. seems like an easy statement to make, but with csu, its true. they are best suited for a physical game. its probably not exaggerating to say csu is a more physical team than carolina. vikings have some guys who really get after it. their main issue is finding reliable scorers.
vikings took a pretty good cal team to overtime in csu last year.
honestly, if rollie was still here i wouldnt touch csu. but i think this is a big game for mike garland to re-establish the csu program. obviously they aint winning the game. but to get ripped a new ass would be detrimental to the progress of this program.
basically, pros for csu are very physical team with solid defensive principles. good size. biggest crowd in a decade (in a building that much bigger than most mid-major arenas) as well as first big game under mike garland, who comes from a winning program
cons for csu would be no big time scorer. havent had a big time scorer since the infamous damon stringer, whos now in jail after robbing cc sabathia at gunpoint.

carolina naturally a deeper team as well. csu is a little inexperienced off the bench. but their starters and transfers are pretty solid
csu needs to withstand carolina early haymaker. if they can do that, they cover the game. but csu not gonna come from behind. percell coles can shoot the 3 ball well, but thats about it. csu needs to get to the 2nd media timeout down no more than 6 or 7
