Manny Fernandez, Minnesota Wild - Fernandez is the probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Devils, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Arturs Irbe, Carolina Hurricanes - Irbe is the probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Bruins, reports the Raleigh News-Observer. Kevin Weekes has apparently been slowed down by the flu, which is on top of his right hand injury.

Steve Shields, Boston Bruins - Shields is the probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Olaf Kolzig, Washington Capitals - Kolzig is the probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Sabres.

Chris Osgood, New York Islanders - Osgood is likely to be activated off injured reserve in time for Thursday's game against the Bruins. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be re-appointed the team's #1 goalie as backup Garth Snow has flourished in Osgood's absence.

Tommy Salo, Edmonton Oilers - Salo has recovered from a groin strain and practiced with the Oilers on Monday with intentions of dressing as the backup for Tuesday's game against the Sharks. However, he took a slapshot to the blocker hand during practice and was in a lot of discomfort making his status for tonight's game uncertain.

player info

Chris Pronger, St. Louis Blues - Pronger took a big step towards returning to play sometime this year by engaging in his first full practice of the year. He said afterwards that there was some pain in both his surgically repaired knee and wrist and that there was still no timetable for his return. The Blues are hopeful that he will be able to at least try and play for the final few games of the regular season but Pronger hasn't and won't commit to that yet.

Doug Weight, St. Louis Blues - Weight practiced on Monday as he recovers from a broken bone in his face. He told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he tried to convince the Blues coaching and medical staff to let him play on Tuesday but that they said no due to fear of re-injury. Weight expects to return for Friday's game against the Red Wings.

Sergei Fedorov, Detroit Red Wings - Fedorov missed Monday's game against the Blue Jackets with a back injury. Coach Dave Lewis simply stated that after participating in the pre-game skate, Fedorov's back was just too sore to play with but that he hopes it's only a day-to-day thing.

Chris Chelios, Detroit Red Wings - Chelios did not play on Monday against the Blue Jackets with a knee injury, but tests revealed that the injury isn't as bad as originally feared and that Chelios could be back in the Wings lineup as early as Friday.

David Legwand, Nashville Predators - Even though doctors have estimated that he will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a broken collarbone, Legwand hopes to be back in a "week or two". That's a bit optimstic by our guesses, but don't be surprised if Legwand is back playing by the end of the month.

Andreas Johansson, Nashville Predators - Johansson is not expected back in the Predators lineup for another 7-10 days. His hip injury has prevented him from doing any sort of exercises.

Peter Worrell, Florida Panthers - Worrell missed Monday's game against the Maple Leafs due to experiencing concussion-like symptoms as a result of a high stick in the previous game against the Rangers. He is set to undergo more testing to determine if he has an actual concussion and if he does, expect him to be sidelined for at least five more days.

Vladimir Malakhov, New York Rangers - Malakhov had to leave Monday's game against the Islanders with a shoulder injury after missing a bodycheck. He will be re-evaluated today in New York according to coach Glen Sather but it is feared that he dislocated his shoulder.

Sami Kapanen, Philadelphia Flyers - Kapanen is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Canucks with the flu, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

John LeClair, Philadelphia Flyers - LeClair'sa agent told the media that there is an "outside chance" that his client could be back in the Flyers lineup by the weekend. However, LeClair would not committ to such a return.

Simon Gagne, Philadelphia Flyers - Gagne will not play tonight due to his previously torn groin, but is eyeing a return for Friday's game against the Rangers.

Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins - Lemieux did not participate in Monday's team practice so he could rest his ailing back but he is still expected to be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Coyotes.

Jan Hrdina, Pittsburgh Penguins - Hrdina also did not practice due to a hip injury and is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Coyotes. Furthermore, coach Rick Kehoe does not know when he will get the winger back.

Zdeno Chara, Ottawa Senators - Chara (chest injury) will be a game-time decision to play on Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, reports the official Senators website.

Oleg Kvasha, New York Islanders - Kvasha was benched for all except 17 seconds of the third period of a bad holding penalty he took on Pavel Bure earlier in the game. Just in case you were wondering why his icetime was down.

Sergei Samsonov, Boston Bruins - Samsonov continues his off-ice workout as he battles back from wrist surgery. The winger estimated that he may actually be able to return in three weeks and hopes to get clearance in one week to begin wrist curl exercises.

Erik Cole, Carolina Hurricanes - All glimmer of hope surrounding a return by Cole late this year have been squashed. The Hurricanes confirmed that he is out for the season and may need surgery on his knees and shoulders, unrelated to the leg injury which is currently sidelining him.

Jan Hlavac, Carolina Hurricanes - Tests confirmed that Hlavac has a broken finger and he is thus expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks.

<a href="http://www.faceoff.com/nhl/teams/canucks/news/story.html?f=/news/20030304/191179.html"> This article</a> sez we could see Auld tonight in net for Vancouver.

thescore ticker reports Salo is expected, as backup I assume.

Team official sites confirm: Biron, Brodeur, Belfour, Lalime and Fernandez. Chechmanek too (Esche should get a start this weekend or monday).

Carolina official site seems to say Irbe is probable tonight:

"The Canes got what passes for good news on Monday, when it turned out that defenseman Niclas Wallin was suffering from flu-like symptoms and not concussion-related symptoms. Of course, the bug threatens to keep Wallin out of tonight's lineup, as well as goalie Kevin Weekes, who is also sick and also missed Monday's practice....."
