I have had what I would call a 'pinched nerve' in my back for about a week. Someone recommended I go to a chiropractor and have it checked out. That spurred a conversation at work about chiropractors. Anyone have thoughts good/bad about going to a chiropractor? If you think it is not a good idea, what kind of doctor would you recommend to see?

Physicall therapists are supposively a step above a chiropractor. I went to health south which helped out, but much more expensive. When I had a major back problem I went to the phy. therapist. But when I had a pinched nerve, which was more minor compard to my other injury I went to the chiropracter and have been pain free since.

Good experience with chiropractor but don't expect to walk out of there pain free. First time I went to one I was under the impression that they were magicians and my pain would disappear immediately. Takes a few days but you'll feel alot better.

i used to go to a chiropractor regularly for pain and although helpful, it never helps as much as when i get a massage - i get pinched nerves in my neck all the time and my massage therapist makes me feel great once i leave and one or two days later the pain is completely gone...

and once you see a chiropractor they will usually tell you that you have to go back for many treatments - you will want to go back to get a massage...

if you have any concerns/questions about going, you can ask me
chiro care helps for most, but there are some people that do not respond to the treatment

I can help find you a reputable one nearby you if you want...get my email from Jack if you need to

toy, I just had a posterior cervical laminectomy c6/c7. That doesn't mean I can never go back to the chiropractor does it? Thanks. Feel like a trip now could do some good, but I just had the surgery on 5/9.

you can definitely go back to the DC, just make sure he is aware of it before he/she adjusts you...he can adjust vertebra superior and inferior to the levels affected...you might want to give him/her a call to make sure though

This is news to me, chiropractors are required to have much more education than Phy. Ther., so I'm wondering on what you base your statement.

All I know is I had major back problems about 20 yrs ago and was advised by a MD to have back surgery to fix a compacted disc. On advice from a friend I tried his Chiropractor who he swore by.

At the time I believed all chiropractors were quacks, of course I had never been to one.

To make a long story short, I went to this guy for almost 3 yrs off and on, you now when I felt good I wouldn't go and when my back went out I would go and get it taken care of.

Finally I took my Chiropractors advice a followed his regiment for 2.5 years faithfully and I have not had a problem with my back for over 12 yrs except for the occasional twinge.

Absolutely recommend Chiropractic medicine.

Trust me ........Believe me........I love my Chiro!!! I've had too many things fixed.....pinched nerves, my wifes sciatica , bulging discs etc.............All by a VERY GOOD and highly credentialed Chiro.. I would not hesitate to see a GOOD ( highly recommended)
Chiro ....first
My wife's sciatica hung on for months...after all kinds of anti-inflammatories, different diagnoses.....we finally found our Chiro.. who kinda laughed ..told her exactly what to expect.. (leg pain would go after first visit ..etc) and after a few more short visits..done
I've had the occasional lower back problems for years and she ALWAYS gets the job done! I'm a big fan of good Chiropractors!
