some are better than others obviously, but I would assume skycaddie would give you the yardages to the front, middle, back, bunkers, to carry water and so forth. It is all about how good you are, I would say if you can break 90 and have your yardages down then go for it. If your just a hacker thats has fun getting on the course then why waste the money. I personally love it, but it is justa tool and only as helpful as the person using it. :toast: BTW where you finding them cheap, might make a good christmas gift for some around here.

I love mine, but I avoided SkyCaddie because I didn't want to pay for the subscription or download courses. I have the Garmin Approach and it is a huge help in more ways than just telling you the distance to the hole. It helped me understand my club distances and now I have a much more accurate idea of how far I hit each club. I was way off on my PW, SW, 7I, 4I, and 3I.

I've gone into the future!!!!!!!

Ravens score 1st at Carolina. Minny kicks a FG to score 1st against GBay and Dallas scores on a pass to Bryant!!!!!

You are correct Garry I have skycaddie and prob worst deal going now. I have a buddy that has new gizmo -don't know which brand--but you can see cars passing in live time--can go to 1st hole and check out his car in parking lot. Same guy carries 3 phones -business/wife/girlfriends--I'm serious. :)

Make sure you get the SGX. It's the only pre loaded unit and dosen't have the yearly fee. I also sell a ton of the Callaway UPRO GO. My shop, as many others are selling them new for $199.99 NO yearly fee and great features.

Bushnell Pinseeker is what I use and love it. All you ever need to do is replace the battery every year or so (9V).

I would highly recommend you stay away from this model. Company who made it took some major short-cuts that is going to come out in software problems down the road.

Played with one at a course called rarity bay. Friend had it out and was using it. Stood on a sprinkler head that said 250 and the skycaddie said 245.....

Sprinkler head gives you yardage to the middle of the green. Could the pin have been 5 yards closer to the front of the green?

All rangefinders target the pin. Skycaddies target the middle of the green and they will also give you front and back yardage.

So if the Pin is in the back of the green it will give you yardage to the back edge but not the extact pin location on the green.

I have a Sg5 and it works just fine but I also have a leupold range finder that I have had 3 years and never have had to replace the battery and works awesome. The only difference between a range finder and a skycaddie is simple. If you are behind some trees or there is something obstructing your view to the green then obviously they range finder wont dial in a correct yardage or if you are hitting a uphill blind shot to the pin you wont be able to get a yardage as where the skycaddie will still give you yardages no matter where you are at.

Personally both are great and you cant go wrong. Ill use the skycaddie on a new course I am playing but any course that I have played before I use the range finder.

You cant go wrong with either and there are some exceptional models in both out there now.

The course might have been been off in their yardage. I have seen it a lot lately from courses that havent lasered their yardage markers. The skycaddie cant register exact pin location on front back middle.

Also some courses laser from the back of the tee and measure from the tee forward instead of green back dont ask me why though I think it is ridiculous.
