I was in Vegas this last week. I had a rental car and got stopped by a LV cop for making an illegal turn. I fully admit that I did make an improper turn. I was in the wrong lane and my navigation unit kept saying "turn left here", "turn left here". I turned left. I was stopped very soon by a cop. He was very belligerent and had no concern at all for my explanation. He took my license and went to his car. When he came back, he had written me two tickets. One for improper turn and one for running a red light. He said the turn lane had a red light. I tried to explain and he wouldn't listen at all! Said he could have written more if he wanted too. I've tried to call the court system but it is a nightmare. You hold forever, then it goes to a voicemail that is full and eventually just hangs up on you. Only thing it says is to go online and how to pay the fine. Seems like a racket to me. I just wonder if the tickets will be reported to my home state of Texas? I have not had a ticket in over ten years and don't want my insurance rates to go up. I have five vehicles. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

In my state, (NY), there is no reciprosity with any of the other 49 states. Which means an out of state ticket will not appear on my DMV OR reported to my insurance. Check your state's law online. If it's like NY, just pay the fine.

This from the NYS DMV site. Check your state's site.

If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license?

The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.

If you do not respond to a ticket or fail to pay a fine for a moving violation that you committed in any state except Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon or Wisconsin, the DMV suspends your NYS driver license until you respond to the ticket or pay the fine. If a driver from a state except these six states fails to respond to a traffic ticket issued in NYS, their driver license will be suspended until the driver responds to the traffic ticket in NYS.

Drivers from other states must contact the DMV in their home state to get information about the effect of a traffic violation conviction that occurs in NYS.

If you receive a conviction for an alcohol-related or drug-related driving violation in any state, your NYS driver license is revoked for at least six months.

That may be true but there is a private company now that has a record and in my case inaccurate records of every claim/loss violation you ever had., Got hit in a parking garage in Atlantic City while parked in a Casino Garage ?company has it listed as an at fault accident??. Got side Swiped from the rear in San Juan Puerto Rico Last winter in an Avis rental car???. seemed cut and dried no way am i at fault?my insurer finds out the accident report ..in Spanish says i ran a red light?.my fault..nothing i can do about it..so i have 2 at fault accidents in 2 years when i actually have a clear record??..If i ever get dropped i will pay thru the ass?

Hammer, in NY this only applies to traffic violations. Vehicular damage does get reported.

Thanks for the help so far. I'll check, if they stay off my record, then I'll just pay them and go on. I've been coming to this sight for at least five years. I don't post often but really enjoy the sight. I used to have a different name and email. First post with this email. Thanks again!

Vette I believe the tickets will show up because both states are members of the DLC.Your state will then decide if they show on your record or if points are assessed.

http://www.carinsurance.com/kb/content26407.aspx
Most states in the U.S. have reciprocal agreements with each other regarding motor vehicle violation convictions of drivers. The shared information may be about a minor offense, such as a speeding ticket, or a major offense, such as a DUI.

The main reciprocal agreements, with regards to traffic violations, are the Drivers License Compact (DLC) and Non-Resident Violator Compact (NRVC). There is also the Drivers License Agreement (DLA); however, it doesn't yet have the state membership that the other two compacts currently have.

States that are members of the DLC are required to report traffic ticket convictions received by a motorist back to the state where the driver is licensed. The individuals' own state then determines if the traffic offense will be placed on the person's driving record and if any points will be assessed.

Current members of the DLC include:

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
California
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
District of Columbia
Florida
Hawaii
Idaho
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Maine
Maryland
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio
Oklahoma
Oregon

Called the traffic court. It takes at least 30 minutes to talk to a person. Sometimes much longer! The tickets will appear on my record unless I take driving school. I decided to take the school online. All together this little episode will cost well over $500.00. Either way the fine is $456.00! Let this be a lesson. Be very aware of how you drive in Vegas!
