Northwestern is coming off their biggest rival a game in which they needed a punt return TD to tie the game and send it into overtime. This was the fourth overtime game this year for Northwestern. Their six wins have been by a combined total of 33 points. Last week they lost their leading receiver that put a big cramp in their passing attack as their were numerous dropped passes. Northwestern does a great job of moving the ball in between the 20's but has a rough time putting it into the end zone. Last week they looked like a very tired football team and when they are coming off a victory over their biggest rival they are now 3-6 versus the spread. The weakness of Northwestern is their pass defense and in the last few weeks have lost the starting safety and a linebacker. They had quite a few sacks versus Illinois but that was due to an inexperienced QB. I have watched Northwestern numerous times over the season and they have benefited from playing in a very weak Big Ten that has very few teams that are able to pass the ball. Although the Wildcats are playing for a bowl can't see them emotionally up for the game after the long plane trip of 10 hours.
As for Hawaii their defense has been beat up due to injuries they do get a few of those players back for today's game. Chang should be able to take advantage of the weak back seven for Northwestern tonight. Hawaii is a different team on the homeland as they only have 1 loss at home.
I know this is the weakest Hawaii team in the last few years but these non-conference games are big games for Hawaii. Expect a close game tonight that will probably be decided by a late field goal another area that the Wildcats struggle in. Hawaii is 9-2 in their last 11 games as a home dog versus a non-conference opponent. Look for that to go to 10-2 tonight.
