...totally agree!!! it gives an unfair advantage to the return team.... i fail to see why anyone would ever call a fair catch in cfb anymore.... it's a bullchit rule that needs to be discarded!!!
especially when the returner waits until the last minute to move forward to make the catch. do they expect the coverage guys coming down the field balls to the wall to somehow throw it in reverse? the logic escapes me.
I call it the hello rule. Hello ref throw the flag the guy was with in 10 yards of me and said hello. I do believe and this is nasty. If you going to get called make it count.
I agree also. In this instance the defender actually made contact with the returner as he was catching the ball, so it was actually interference.
A punt returner would be stupid to call a fair catch in college ball.
I say the defending team should just hit the returner, take the 15 yard penalty, and be done with it. That limits the "return" to 15 yards every time and prevents runbacks. The kicking team doesn't have to hit the returner hard, just knock him down.
...i agree sixfive. the cover team should just pound the return man every time...until the ncaa gets their collective heads out of their ass and changes the rule. like you said, you could just give up the 15 yeards everytime and not have to worry about any long returns. makes great sense to me.
For that matter how about that running into kicker.....that was a
lame call...just need to be a good actor....how can you stop if trying to block punt? maybe back punter 10yds and free-kick:shrug:
