it wasn't a collapse

it wasn't a collapse

Gonzaga is a top 5 team in the nation. While SMC is a nice team they are not in the same class as Zaga. Zaga has highly skilled players who can score and defend. Zaga has won 7 or 8 straight in the series and the last few by DD. The loss was not a result of SMC failing but Gonzaga imposing their will and succeeding.

I don't agree at all. Why didn't Gonzaga "impose their will" for the first 38 minutes of the game? St. Mary's fell apart and folded under the pressure when they realized they might have a chance to win. It was definitely a collapse by St. Mary's. No doubt Gonzaga is a much better team, but the Gaels lost their composure in the last minute and a half.

really?

really?

Gonzaga took the best hit in the 1st 15 minutes and got down 17. By the 15 minute mark of the second half the Zags had cut the lead to 1. Then SMC was able to stretch it back out to 10 with 10 to play. The zags went on a run and had the deficit cut to 1 with 5 minutes to play. From their they a few possessions defined it and the zags had a 62-60 lead... SMC missed the shot and thus fouling occurs. Not sure what you are talking about the first 38 minutes? SMC played +17 the first 12 minutes and then -27 the next 28 minutes.

SMC did not throw this game away in the last 2 minutes... That is naive.

Gaels did choke this one away. They are at least suppose to cover the seven if not win outright when they led for 90% of the game.

I don't disagree with the cover..

I don't disagree with the cover..

once they did not score to tie it up at when the Zags were up 62-60... They fouled and allowed the Zags to go on an 8-0 run. That was bad.

SMC should have covered...

These late covers or non covers come down to 2 things. Defenses willingness to stop 3's and give up relatively easy lay ups. Trailing team willingness to take those easy lay ups instead of 3's and hoping to foul teams thus trading 2 for "nones" or ones" to get back into the game. just my opinion, I could be wrong. :0008
