There are still over 12,000 homes/business without power and according to Mid american, My block might not be fixed for 2-3 more days!:scared Had to come here to the library to get online.....Don't know If I can handle much more at the in-laws house...Anyway, to any of those who live in this area my thoughts are with you. Hope to talk to you all soon...

Mully I bought a generator last fall and it was the best $999 bucks I ever spent. Told the wife if we never use it fine but it"s there if we need it. I have used it 4 times this winter. I wired it to backfeed through my panel box. Hint if you get one, get one big enough to power most of your house.

Mully-

Where exactly do you live? I live in the Quad Cities, specifically, Davenport.
I know lots of people are still without power, we were fortunate to not lose power at any time.
My brother, who lives 6 blocks west of me, lost his power for about 3.5 hours staring around 8 PM Saturday night.
Hope you get your power back on very soon, neighbor...

To prevent the pipes from bursting:

Turn off the inflow to your house.

Open and run a downstairs faucet to drain the system.

No water in the pipe, the pipe can't burst.

Should have a valve on the manifold of your boiler. Looks like an outdoor faucet. Have a bucket handy and open the drain. Shut off the check valve to the supply first to isolate the system.

Actually morris my problem is filling it back up. I can never seem to get all the air out so i have to go bleed all the heaters around my house and i have a ton of them because my house is big because ists only 1 floor. When my furnace goes out every contract i ever sign the guy who comes to fix it loves to remind me that filling it back up is not under contract so i just tell them hit the road. It is still a pain in the ass to do it tho.

Sponge I have an aerator in line with my system that automatically takes the air out. Works like your kitchen faucet. It's inline and automatically bleeds off the air. I have no bleeders on the baseboards. Works great

On the Illinois side? That narrows it down...LOL.

Didn't know MidAmerican served that side of the river. Learn something new everyday.

They reported that the rural areas on this side of the mighty Mississippi are still 2-3 days away from getting everyone back online.

Hope you get yours back sooner than that...

anyone see this:

An ice-covered tree limb falling onto a power line. Captured live by WHO TV Channel 13 out of Des Moines, Iowa, on February 25, 2007. The limb fell directly onto the line, causing a series of explosions of the transformers of the grid.

and worse yet more of the same in iowa today, blizzard warnings, everything is closed, interstates shut down and the news says where ever you are a 2pm today is where you are staying as travel will be impossible.Ice last night and a full blown blizzard today, unreal.
