HONOLULU - The Hawai'i men's basketball team will try to start a new home winning streak after having its 24-game streak snapped by San Jose State, last Saturday. The Rainbow Warriors host Nevada, Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7:05 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The 'Bows have lost six of eight games to drop to seventh in the Western Athletic Conference standings. Nevada is second, a game and a half behind Fresno State for the top spot.
Hawai'i also had a 21-game WAC home win streak end in Saturday's loss. The 'Bows will try to avenge a nine-point loss to Nevada in Reno, Jan. 25.
The Teams: Hawai`i (13-8, 6-7 WAC) had its 24-game home winning streak snapped by San Jose State, 55-54, Saturday. Nevada (14-9, 9-4 WAC) suffered a 99-97 overtime home loss to Louisiana Tech, Saturday.
The Coaches: UH's Riley Wallace (16th season) owns a 256-212 record at the Manoa campus. Nevada's Trent Johnson (50-60) is in his fourth season.
Series History: 13th meeting. Tied, 6-6. UH leads 5-1 in games played in Honolulu.
Last Meeting: Nevada won 73-65, Jan. 25, 2003 in Reno. The Wolf Pack used a 14-0 run late in the second half. Carl English scored a game-high 27 points for the 'Bows.
About the Nevada Wolf Pack (14-9, 9-4 WAC): The Wolf Pack split a pair of home games last week, defeating SMU, 82-64, Thursday, and losing in overtime to Louisiana Tech, 99-97, Saturday. Nevada stands in second place in the WAC race, a half game in front of La. Tech. Guard Terrance Green (6-2, Portland, OR) led the Wolf Pack in scoring off the bench last week with 29 points against the Mustangs and 31 versus the Bulldogs. Four players average in double figures for the Wolf Pack, including Green's 14.3 points per game average. Leading the team in scoring is forward Kirk Snyder (6-6, Upland, CA). The sophomore is averaging 15.4 ppg and a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game. In the teams' earlier meeting last month, Snyder posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Todd Okeson (6-0, Weskan, KS) ranks among the national leaders in 3-point percentage, shooting 50.5 percent behind the arc.
