A friend is moving and has offered to give me his Sony Wega 36 HD CAPABLE TV. because of it's extremely heavy weight.

If I swap out my regular cable box with my cable companies HD box, will this TV be able to broadcast an HD signal?

If not, what exactly is HD Capable?

i have a smaller version of the wega in a bedroom...except,i think that mine`s just "enhanced definition"...the picture is much better than your average cathode ray tube...but,not quite hi-def....

check the manual to see if it has a hi def tuner built in...

you may still need a cable box,though...i do...particularly if you want to get any premium service...

if you unhook cable totally, you may be able to get "over the airwaves" hi-def stuff....not 100% sure...

ilet me make a suggestion...everybody should try and save a cathode ray tube t.v. for your kids and grand kids...at some point...long after we`re gone,i`ll bet these t.v.`s,if preserved, will become pretty valuable...

they`re being phased out completely as we speak...
