Guys been doing lots of research lately on a new plasma.

Looking at these four and was wanting any Madjacker's advice on these models or any particular others that I need to look into further. I really like what I've seen out of Panasonic and Pioneer

Panasonic
TH-58PZ750U
TH-58PZ700U

Pioneer
PDP-5010FD
PDP-5080HD

Any help would be appreciated

I'd go with a Bravia or a Vizio. Sony makes the best plasma TV's and Bravia's and Vizio's are both Sony products. Great features, can't say enough good things about them. I've got a Sony Bravia in my LR and a Vizio in my BR. Both great TV's, well worth the money spent.

Sony is not the best.........

I would say Pioneer is, but can't go wrong with either of the companies you listed JB.....the Pioneer PDP-5080HD, looks to be a great set(reviewed as one of the best pictures you'll get)....the 5010FD is a newer set so you'll be paying more

depending on when and where you will be watching tv, sometimes glare can be a deciding factor, as well as dark scenes and the detail of those scenes......the 5080 takes care of all that....

here is a cnet blurb

Black-level performance is one of the most important aspects of picture quality. When a display can produce a deep shade of black, it not only improves the realism and the punch of dark scenes, it also makes colors look richer and more saturated. So why did we like Pioneer PDP-5080HD so much? This 50-inch plasma produces the darkest shade of black we've ever seen or measured from a non-CRT TV, whether plasma, LCD, or projection. It also offers a "smooth" video-processing mode that works relatively well, one of the best antireflective screens we've tested, and numerous picture controls. We do complain about its less-than-perfect color accuracy and its incomplete color temperature controls, but those issues don't prevent it from earning our highest praise. The only real kink in the works is its high price compared to that of other similar resolution plasmas on the market. If you can stomach the extra payout, the Pioneer PDP-5080HD delivers a jaw-dropping home theater picture.

Thanks guys

I can't decide whether to go one big (60") or get 2 (50") and go with side by side action for March Madness. Went to best buy yesterday and the 6010FD by Pioneer had a wow factor so kinda tempting.

either of the panasonics are going to be great.

imo, vizio is hardly one of the best quality pictures out there. maybe a good tv for a cheap price. but no way are they best quality.

I did a lot of research and far and away the best from what I've read at multiple sources is the Pioneer 5080HD. At 50 in there will be no difference b/w the 1080 and 780i, truest black on the market. It was 3200 pre xmas at best buy but I've seen it down to 24 or 2500 there.

I'm getting that one once we move in a few months.

Gotta agree with all the other responses.....the Panasonics are the best for the money, and the Pioneers are best....Period. You will pay more for the Pioneer, but they do have better black levels, longer pixel life and better energy effiency than most other higher-end plasmas.

I have 2 Sony's, 55" in the LR and 50" in BR. I can't complain and am partial to Sony with all the success me and/or my family has had with this make.

From the most recent issue of Consumer Reports:

50-inch models

1. (81) Panasonic TH-50PZ700U - $3,000
2. (79) LG 50PY3D -- $3,000

CR Best Buy in category:
(78) Panasonic TH-50PX75U - $2,000

The lowest mark on this model was for the on-screen menu and it was "good".

58-inch+ models
CR Best Buy: (65) Vizio Maximvs VM60P HDT-V10A (60 in) - $2,500

This one ranked "very good" across the board.

FYI, "excellent" is the highest ranking.

Call me nutso, but I would go for th side by side. My LR has side by side and my BR, where I do most of my watching has side by side by side.
Not all are HD(yet), but that's OK. It's just a personal thing and as a side note, one is usually tuned in alot a stock/business channel. But, during foots season, all 3 in the BR are on at once, both Sat & Sun. I love it as PIP is useless .

I own the pioneer elite and the panasonic both 50" .If money is no issue i would go with the pioneer but the panasonic is right there with it and gets you the best bang for your buck. You can not go wrong with either of them.I agree with most here that these are the top two tv's on the market.

I just bought this one:

Panasonic TH-50PZ85U
NEW! 50" Class (49.9 " Diagonal) Widescreen VIERA Plasma 1080p HDTV with Increased Native Contrast Ratio, PC Input, New Anti-Reflective Filter, Deep Color Technology, Game Mode, Built-In SD Card Slot/GalleryPlayer? Ready to View, 3 HDMI Inputs and VIERA Link? HDAVI Control

Although it's still sitting in the box b/c they said it wouldn't ship until April and I got it last week, but my new furniture won't arrive until April, so my wife doesn't want me to put it on a card table, but I am going to setit up there anyway tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it looks. I can't have a new TV sitting in a box in the office. That baby is going up.

I agree marine........even though I own 3 of them, a 42" and two 37" . It's a good LCD for the money but not the best. Had one of them for almost two years now and the picture on hi-def is really good.........good enough for me I guess.

Just bought this LCD last night ......

Excellent

Although not quite as impressive as the best plasmas, the 46-inch Sony KDL-46XBR4 outperforms any flat-panel LCD we've tested so far.

Nice set for a decent price 2500.00 :0corn

I was considering a Plasma but I have too much natural light in the room.
