I have a 6 teamer:
NYM
STL
NYY
CHN
OAK
ATL

I have put down $20 to win $300.

NYM and STL hit...should I hedge out and take the opposite sides on the other for $10 each?

Please help. Thanks!

Obviously, if you have won 5 out of 6 going into a late game, hedge ML or in some other way to guarantee a profit or obviate any loss.

But, firstly your par is not "hedgeable" yet AND many people seem to forget the parlays they have lost (vast majority . . .) and that a winning parlay is what we look forward to to make up those losses and the attendant fun.

When a parlay is hedged, some profits are given up. Give them up only if the gain is worth it. And, btw, except for very few people, parlays are an expensive indulgence allowing for dreams of "100 pays 10,000"--fun dream though. Nice for us all to have won that Mets/Cards par, wasn't it?!

(And, btw, Raymond is one of those people who make parlays work for them.)

pacer far to early to hedge, unfortunately you still have 4 teams left. Although I like your chances. Best of luck

What's wrong with throwing a total of $40 on the remaining opp. sides? If for some reason the rest of my parlay loses out I will win money on the dogs...am i missing something?

you have only hit 2 of 6. dont you like the other 4 plays you made? i hope so if you bet it. why bet on all 4 dogs now? you could lose even more money by hedging so early. and since you dont have any west coast games included, i'd just wait and try to hit the 6 teamer

Pacerfan the reason it is too early to hedge is because if the only team on your parlay that happens to lose is Atlanta, then you are going to lose more than what you put on the parlay. You will almost lose double the cost of the parlay. The main purpose of hedging a bet is to guarantee a profit. If you had 5 teams in and the last team was the SF Giants then by all means you should hedge your bet with Houston but since all your games start at the same time you are better off sitting back and hoping that the remaining 4 all win.

Hope that helps. Good Luck!

That's why it is called gambling. You can always say woulda coulda shoulda but most of the time you should go with your first instinct and run with. If you like playing parlays then make sure you always play 1 (and just 1) late game so if it comes down to this last play then you can hedge and make a profit.
I have to agree with the rest of the forum and advise you to stick with the parlay. At worst you will lose $20. Besides, the forum likes the rest of your picks. The only one that I haven't seen any action on is the Atl/Phi game.
