i posted in another thread that i was heading to Vegas next month.... my Father, two brothers, two friends, and myself are leaving behind the ladies.. and heading out to LAS VEGAS March 16th..

the plans were solid. the arrangements were made.. i bought the plane tickets for all involved...

heres the problem..

Due to family matters we need to return 8 HOURS earlier.. NOT DAYS... HOURS...

no problem, call the airline explain what happened and have the ticket changed to an earlier flight.. the trip is a month away.. plenty of notice.. no problem right??

WRONG!!

These phukin jokers want over $100 a pop plus tax for the ticket change..

now then.. the reason we need to leave early is mostly my fault.. and its not fair to have everyone else pay an extra 100 bucks when its my fault..

so im looking at $600 dollars out of pocket just to get home a few hours early..

this is robbery!!!!!!!
christ im giving a month notice and they still want $600 for a flight a few hours earlier??

If anyone knows of any tricks or can give me some hints on how to get out of this i would appreciate it.. but i refuse to pay that much... Phuk'em!!!!!!!!

thanks

sorry gibber, but not much you can do to GUARANTEE an early flight than to go with the terms of the orignial ticket and put up the $100 change fee :(

not even sure how post 9/11 would even keep your *take your chances* options open. (since you have to be a ticked passenger to get past original security) used to be that you could go early and hope for a nice gate agent and standby seats available for an earlier flight)

right now, you should just consider yourself lucky that the new flight hours you need aren't for a higher in demand flight where they would charge you additional for the flight as well as the penalty :(

DANG AIRLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off learn the schedule of the carrier that you are flying from vegas to home. Dunno about flights to vegas but usually fridays & mondays are the most crowded. Then go to the airport on the day of departure and try to get on the flight you want (stand by, I do it all the time), if not...what is the worst....you have to go back to the strip and kill some time.

Question about this.. say i show up and there is a stand by.. do i have to buy this ticket as well?? or can i exchange the ticket i bought for it??

thanks

Gibber, if standby in the fashion that Ryson describes is still an option, then no....it just means you are *taking your chances* on getting an earlier flight rather than guaranteeing yourself one. your ticket price wouldn't change, and they would take the return ticket you already have.

the problem i see with this is new *restrictions* into the gate area (where standby determination is made) if i'm not mistaken, in Minneapolis, you aren't even allowed thru initial security unless you have a ticket within 3 hours departure time.

(other problem.......when you fly standby, you can't really check baggage either, so be prepared for minimal carry ons) :(
