Ok guys....

Today, I went to the bank drive through. When i pulled in and grabbed the tube, there was a driver's license inside (obviously from the person that got done before me). The stall was empty when I got there so I was never behind this person.

Here comes the catch 22. I know that the world is an untrustworthy place to live. I figure I have two options.....tell the teller that there was an ID left behind or take it and try to get it back to the person. Since I know there are lots of people who don't give a shit about being nice, part of me wanted to take it....since I have doubts of whether or not the person receiving the ID would do anything to find its owner. On the other hand, by me taking the ID and trying to find the owner myself, I realize how that could come across as creepy or weird, given the current social climate. I just know that I'm a good, honest guy that would try to get the lost ID to the rightful person.

The final kick is it appears to be a college student from a local college since the address on the license isn't from around here.

What would you do?

On the course!
I always thought you can drop any id with an address on it in a mailbox, and it will get there.

Anyway, I would have gave it to the bank. It's not like they don't know who it is.

Give it to the bank manager if you're worried about the teller. I'm sure it happens a lot. Also the person will prob remember the last place they used ID was bank and return there before you could track them down. I think giving it to the bank is most responsible action.

First things first, is she hot or is she disfigured?

I am just going from what I gleaned from your post. I noticed you referred to the owner as "this person". So rather than say girl or woman and suffer through all the snide comments that I alone would have made, you went with person. Also, by using the term creepy, I am also thinking that this wouldn't have occurred to you if it were a man as you could simply say you found it in the street down the road and go about your business. Your willingness to deliver the ID also leads me to believe that it's a woman. Am I correct?

Hope that helps,
FDC

Something similar to this happened to me about 10 years ago. I stopped at a gas station to fill up, it's busy, wait for a turn at the pump, car at the pump pulls away, I pull in and i see a credit card lying on the ground.

1. It was obvious to me the credit card belonged to the car that was just there.
2. If I go take it to the gas station attendent inside, I'm willing to bet a load of charges are made on the card before it gets back to the owner.
3. If I keep it, anyone currently at the gas station that saw me pick it up will think I'm a loser for keeping it.

In the end, I didnt trust turning it over to someone. I kept it, went to work and googled the lady's name on the card. It was a small town we were in, so real easy to track her down.

Gave her a call, introduced myself (luckily I was in the Navy at the time so I said Lt Dan just to sound less creepy) and told her I found her card at the pump.

I told her she could meet me at my office to pick it up - she sent her real cute daughter that was in college there to pick up the card for her.

So there you have it, I did a good deed and some lady threw her daughter at me.

Keep the driver's license, maybe she'll send her boyfriend and you can get a hummer out of it?

If I were you, I'd turn it into the bank. Go inside, hand it over. Everything in there has camera's pointed to it, I don't think some clerk would risk it all over a DL. Plus, it is their customer, very likely the perso would go right back to the bank once they realize it was missing.

Turn it in to the bank, because that is where the kid will go when he realizes he lost it.

Yeah I don't know where you guys live, but I can't think of any store or bank i go to where the employees would be stupid or evil enough to run up charges on a card a good Samaritan turned in.

That or mail it, like someone else said.

Either way, I think you are being nice. The most appropriate thing is probably to turn it in, because there are probably hell-a cameras around the bank, and if they see you take someone else's ID, that could be trouble for you...

The ID I would turn into the bank. The credit card could get sticky if it was already stolen and just left there. Kind of like ending up with a counterfeit bill.
