How can you lose to a team like VCU if you dont allow them to even attempt 25 3's.............

So wouldnt your game plan be just dont let them have many attemps from 3......

Its not like VCU's big guys could have scored so easy on KU bigs...........

You get outscored from 3...... 36-6........you are going to lose

Just puzzles me...................

coaches are a joke like i said before the game kansas should full court press and trap the corner because vcu only had on good ballhandler and they would have gotten tons of turnovers and easy baskets. This big college programs stick with that they have all year and will not deviate from it no matter what. Duke should of went to a zone against arizona but coach k would never do that. Pitt should have zone Butler the last poss because they are so good at running plays in man. The list could go on and on these guys just get the talent and win. They can not coach.

its so easy to say just dont let them shoot the 3 but that is something that simply can not just be stopped completely. especially if its that teams motive and theyre looking for it.

VCU shoots the 3 more than most teams in the country. over 40% of their FGs attempted are from beyond the 3 point line.

they are going to shoot the 3 regardless of you covering them or not, they will move the ball and get open enough to get a shot off....it doesnt take much.

and when you have good shooters, chances are they dont have to be standing at the 3 point line to make it. these guys can make it from well beyond the line and that makes it that much harder for the defense and opens up much more space inside.

there is no stopping the 3 point shot, period. you can defend it good, but you will not take that away from any team. in fact, when you play good defense, those are the shots you are trying to force. contested 3 point shots. you dont want them getting close to the basket. most coaches are happy with a 3 point attempt as long as it isnt wide open.

I have to disagree........the problem is that you can defend the 3 rather easily if you dont worry so much about giving up a few layups and dunks.......but still who the f**k cares especially when you have the better team........

I guarantee you I have seen coaches go into games and make it a priority to NOT LET A TEAM ATTEMP 20 some 3 pointers.................

what team has prevented jimmer fredette or byu from hoisting up 3's?

none.

dont you think billy donovan, one of the best coaches in the country, had a plan to stop the 3 ball?

byu attempted 37 3 pointers.

you can not stop the 3 if the other team is going to shoot it. period. all you can do is defend it.

another example....Duke was 5th in the country in what % of opposing field goals attempted were 3 pointers.

michigan still got over 20 up against them.

you cant stop it. and thats arguably the best coach in the country.

100% correct, and I love that Kansas was so much better than VCU. VCU's guards OWNED KU's guards. That let's you know how important it is to have an x's and o's coach in cbb.

If Kansas would have tried to press VCU, it would have been comical. The run-outs would have looked like the NBA on the other end.

Another thing, Kansas jacked up many 3's. The difference, their guards were tired from VCU's ball pressure.

Kansas shot 21 3's
VCU shot 25
