Me...I am 6 weeks post op. A little advice do not let them use the mesh ! Do not have it done lapriscopic. I have a 4-5 incision and they sewed up the hernia ! The mesh has an 75% failure rate and you bet your ass they will be fixing it again one day in the future. Be prepared for massive pain ! I was on narcotics for 4 weeks. It still bothers me today and the doctor said another 2-4 weeks and it will be considerably better. I will admit it does improve weekly. Good Luck.

thanks roller. i have had this mf for 5 yrs. it is so small the regular md can't tell that i have it, but i do. lifting light weights does not really bother it. however, recently got some orthodix for my feet. hitting the tread mill has made the mf hurt worse. i am ready to get this fixed and finished ( i hope).

the "mesh" has to be used sometimes, it's unavoidable. Sounds like this hernia is a snap though if it's that small.

Sidenote: my mission trips to Haiti have been surgical trips. We have done a ton of hernias and hydroceles. Some of these men walk in with balls the size of basketballs. Anyway, down there, there is about a 4-5 hour turnaround time between coming in and walking out with the surgery done. Many of these guys have to walk home, and we're not talking short distances. Some have to travel over 10 miles, and this is up in the mountains where the roads are washed out and sometimes, straight up. We send them home with about 20 extra strength Tylenol, tell them no heavy lifting for 4 weeks, and no sex for 2 weeks (they really hate this). They are instructed to come back for a recheck in 3 to 5 days, and I have yet to see a "botched" surgery. Guess what I'm trying to say is the great majority of hernia surgeries go well and fix the problem with no more complications. I think you'll do fine. GL!

Inguinal, umbilical or abdominal hernia repairs are often done in an outpatient surgery center. Some of the repairs may include the use of sugical mesh. Surgical mesh is a metallic or polymeric screen intended to be implanted to reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists. Examples of surgical mesh are metallic and polymeric mesh for hernia repair. Surgery usually take about 90 minutes under general anesthesia with a recovery time of 1 hour. Light activity for the first 3-6 weeks (no lifting heavy objects). Analgesics prescribed are Vicodin(hydrocodone) or Darvocet(Propoxyphene napsylate). Follow-up appointment is within a week. Good Luck
