Tomas Holmstrom will miss Thursday's game against Edmonton because of a sore knee. He injured it Sunday against Carolina but managed to play through it the next night in Nashville. Mark Hartigan has been recalled from Grand Rapids. Dominik Hasek will start in net against the Oilers.
Holmstrom, who didn't reveal which knee was injured, said he's not sure how he hurt it and hasn't had any tests on it. He said he "probably'' won't play Thursday, but it's safe to rule him out, since he hasn't skated in two days and there's no need to risk making it worse. He said he hopes to play Saturday against Florida.
"It's a little swollen, it's sore,'' Holmstrom said. "End of second (period, Sunday), coming in (to the room), it was sore, didn't think as much about it then it was really sore against Nashville. Can't really remember when it happened.''
Coach Mike Babcock used Mikael Samuelsson in Holmstrom's place on the top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, but said he hadn't decided if that's the combination he'll use in the game. Hartigan has 12 goals and 10 assists for the Griffins. He's played in one game for the Wings this season.
Kris Draper (sprained left knee) practiced with the team for the first time since his injury on Nov. 27. He's still not due back until right before or after Christmas.
"Felt good today, was able to stay out there for the whole practice, just tried to stay out of everyone's way,'' Draper said. "Hopefully I turned the corner here. Just kind of keep getting involved in practice and keep skating every day and hopefully there won't be any setbacks.''
