Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Bullfighter - Ran well in debut from a parking lot post 12; tactical speed to get involved from the get go.

Elusive Destiny - Bounced to the moon in last after a nice return off a 16-month hiatus; chance to rebound tonight.

Long Shot - Brayden Buddy

Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Seize Power - Educational debut for former Bobby Frankel aide Humberto Ascanio; suspect will improve with experience.

Kid Edward - Had traffic woes in mid-stretch or would have been closer; is bred to like a a grass route.

Long Shot - Outlaw Man

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

Scottish Diamond - Been very productive since claimed by Jeff Mullins; tactical speed to stay involved throughout.

Six Pack Abs - Sliding down the claiming ladder for John Sadler; takes the blinkers off and adds Joel Rosario.

Long Shot - Doc On the Rock

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Cal Breeders' Champion, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Evening Jewel - Was flattered when Caracortado won a stakes on Saturday; she's improving with each start.

Camille C - Speedy sort figures to provide the target; exits much harder open stakes for these Cal-breds.

Long Shot - Warren's Jitterbug

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

Mind the Minister - The parking lot post will surely enhance his odds; has back class and likes SA sod.

Polonius - Was chewed up last time dueling on a too fast early pace; big class drop can only help his cause.

Long Shot - Zappa

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Irrefutable - Main part of an uncoupled entry from Bob Baffert; this one attracts main man Garrett Gomez to ride.

Solar Rocket - Another Bob Baffert colt who is working lights out; watch the tote board for clues on the FTS.

Long Shot - Good Measure

Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), $150,000 San Gabriel Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Loup Breton - Not sure who he beat in U.S. debut, but he crushed them in cruise control; may be this good, this soon.

Proudinsky - Has thrived the last two winters in Arcadia; much tighter off the Citation, first start in 6 months.

Long Shot - Acclamation

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Dapper Gene - Dead late closer should see plenty of high cheese; suspect his best stride will come late.

Monolingual - Clever win in last, moves up the class ladder; proved he does not need the lead to succeed.

Long Shot - Wiredfortwotwenty

Race 9 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds and up

Ace of Aces - Ran evenly in a difficult U.S. debut; he's facing his maiden friends today, much easier task.

Royal Import - Bob Hess tries blinkers on tonight; big rider switch to Garrett Gomez for the money shot.

Long Shot - Hockley

Best Bet - Bullfighter (race 1)

Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$14.00; Long Shots, 9/1/$10.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #8 Happenstance (1/1) in race 2 at Turfway Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Pashito The Che ran second at Aqueduct paying $2.40 to place and $2.10 to show. Stats - 1/1/$4.50

At the Gate - Sunday

At the Gate - Sunday
December 26, 2009

I dusted off the Aqueduct bankroll after a 12 day hiatus and we got right back in the saddle, coming up with three winners on top on the nine race card, producing a +69% +ROI for the day with my top picks.

The top winner on the day was We Get It, who scored at $19.40 as my top pick in the fifth race.

We knocked down the recommended exacta for $117.00 and trifecta for $585.00.

The trifecta will take care of a good bit of my Christmas shopping bill this year, but with the wife?s birthday falling on Dec. 28, I get hit with a daily double, and I plan on coming up with a windfall on Sunday at the Big A to cover the birthday festivities.

We have a good betting card on tap at the Big A on Sunday, which features the $65,000 Alex Robb Handicap for New York breds.

Wishful Tomcat has won eight in a row when racing in New York, but will be making his first start since June for trainer Richard Dutrow.

At the 2/5 morning line odds, I am going to take a small stab we can beat him with Dr. D.F.C.

Here is today's opening race from Aqueduct to get our day off to a good start:

AQU Race 1 Clm $10,000 (12:30 ET)

#3 Ruff and Ready 5/1

#5 Quip 5/2

#2 Diamond District / #2b Indian War Dance 3/1

#7 Tsavorite 12/1

Analysis: #3 Ruff and Ready was the beaten chalk last out against $7.5K foes in his first trip on the inner. The seven year old was caught out wide and made a mild late run to finish fourth over a inner surface that was playing to horses on or near the lead that day. He was claimed out of the race by the Galluscio barn that is 15% winners first off the claim. This guy has some back class, a stakes winner and three-time earner of a triple digit Beyer in his career. Picks up a break in the weights here picking up the capable bug Serpa.

#5 Quip dueled for the early lead and battle don gamely, unable to hold off the winner late in a runner up finish against $16K claimers at the Big M. The five year old was claimed out of the race by the Brown barn that is 24% winners (with a +ROI) first off the claim. The five year old has landed in the exacta in all three trips on the inner.

Wagering

WIN: #3 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7

TRI: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7 / 2,3,5,6,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 8 Alex M. Robb Hcp (3:44 ET)

#4 Dr. D.F.C. 8/1

#1 Wishful Tomcat 2/5

#5 Naughty New Yorker 10/1

#3 Be Bullish 6/1

Analysis: #4 Dr. D.F.C. appears to have the best shot of beating the imposing favorite in here. The six-year-old stretches back out to a route after making a mild late run to finish third last out in the Thunder Rumble going seven furlongs in the slop. Two back this guy was fourth in the Empire Classic. The winner of that race was Haynesfield, who returned to win the Discovery Handicap (G3) in his next outing on Nov. 21. Our top pick?s last two starts were on wet tracks, which he really has never really cared for. He does have a habit of landing for minor shares but we should get a decent enough price here to give him a good look.

#1 Wishful Tomcat is making his first start since June for the Dutrow barn that is 16% winners with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. The four year old has won his last eight starts in New York. He has only been on the inner surface once in his career, breaking his maiden by 17 ? lengths and earning a huge figure for a New York bred maiden in that outing. Dominquez has been on board for seven of his eight career wins, and Dutrow finds a great spot for him here. It?s just tough to take 2/5 off the bench.

Wagering

WIN: #4 to win at 6/1 or better.

EX: 1,4 / 1,3,4,5

TRI: 1,4 / 1,3,4,5 / 1,2,3,4,5

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Aqueduct

R1: #7 Tsavorite 12/1

R2: #6 Does It Every Time 8/1

R3: #4 Disco Diva 8/1

R4: #7 Considerate 15/1

R5: #11 Pay the Fare 8/1

R7: #8 Banking Holiday 12/1

R8: #4 Dr. D.F.C. 8/1

R8: #5 Naughty New Yorker 10/1

Good luck today!
