Some odd trades so far and free-agent signings just after the World Series ended.

Braves unload Heyward for Shelby Miller of the Cards? Cards also get reliever Jordan Walden with his quirky delivery and near 100 mph fastball, Braves got a steal in Tyrell Jenkins who's very young and has a very good arm, fastball is a bit straight but he's in the low 90's as are all of Cards top prospects. Braves also looking to unload Upton's, both of them, they traded 2nd baseman LaStella who filled in for Uggla. Braves heavily in discussions with Phillies for Dom Brown and Cole Hamels. Braves have several pitchers coming back from some sort of surgery, Beachy, Medlen, Floyd (I think he was a one and done guy, not sure yet though).

Free-agent Catcher, Russell Martin leaves the Bucs to go to the Bluejays? That's a head scratcher!

AJ Burnett spurns the Phils and goes back to the Bucs. Makes sense to me! He's having off-season hernia surgery.

Yankees traded Cervelli? Ok, that opens the door for McCann to do more catching? HAH!! Yankees got a steal in that trade in a quality lefty stopper potentially in Justin Wilson. That hurts the Bucs.

Braves get a top arm from the Cubs in RHP Arodys Vizcaino, Chicago (NL) Acquire:2B Tommy La Stella, Atlanta

Tampa lets Hellickson go to the D-backs for a hyped up OF prospect, Justin Williams and smooth SS Andrew Velazquez who hasn't proven he can hit just yet.

Tigers get CF Anthony Gose from Jays (He can't hit) for scrappy 2b Devon Travis who is going to hit and reminds some of Dustin Pedroia

Angels got a steal in RHP Nick Tropeano and Catcher Carlos Perez from the Asstros for Catcher Hank Conger.

It's going to get busy real soon with off-season trades folks! Stay tuned!!

With Heyward now in St. Louis, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets that a trade of Justin Upton can?t be ruled out. Nightengale lists the Mariners as a strong suitor for Upton, should the Braves decide to market him. Upton recently dropped the Mariners from his no-trade list.

Left-handed power has been a priority for the Sox this offseason, and LaRoche will bring just that to the table, having averaged 26 homers per year over the past three seasons to go along with a solid .256/.346/.458 batting line in that same span.

LaRoche will team up with American League Rookie of the Year Jose Abreu to create a formidable punch in the middle of manager Robin Ventura?s order.

He?s regarded as a plus defender at first base, although he may see some more time at designated hitter with Abreu also figuring to log significant innings at first.

Not a bad signing to go with Abreu. Losing Paulie won't hurt that much!! Sox going for a facial change for 2015!!

Now need two more pitchers to go with Sale-bait!

Red Sox going for broke!! Sign Hanley (return trip to Bahstin) and Panda!! Still in negotiations with Lester who said he'd love to return to Boston, but he's using them to bump up the money!!

And no one wants to go play for Joe Girardi? WOW!! Imagine that!!

Braves and Cards looking to improve made trades and minimal signings so far and they both are not done just yet!!

Mariners re-up with Seager for 7 years and $100,000? Okey dokey!!

Texas also in hot pursuit of Lester as are the Braves and Mariners, Cubs threw out $100,000 for 4 years!

Should get interesting soon with Winter Meetings a couple winks away!

Big 3 way trade with Nats, Rays and Pads, biggest name moving was OF, Wil Myers from Tampa to San Diego. Remember folks, Padres moved the fence in a bit to help their power numbers. Lots of teams standing pat, ie., Phillies for most part other than departing with aged vet and Cali native, Rollins to Dodgers.

More trades to come soon. Lots of talk about Hamels going on the market but Phils want a ton for him and they should. You don't get many premium lefties like him in a trade market, only thing that hurts Hamels is run support, has for the whole time he's been in Philly since his big contract.

If I were the Phils and I hate Amaro Jr, he should trade Howard, Cliff Lee and Papelbon and get some young prospects in return. They already let Mayberry go who was just so-so for them, better in pinch hit role, Utley when he's not hurt can produce, Ruiz needs to go as well.

Yankees have been quiet other than getting Miller and re-signing Headley, they need another starter, they did get a SS in Didi Gregorious, but they still need some healthy young players and their farm system is barren and those folks in those depts have been replaced. Cashman should have been replaced but the Steinbrenners don't care anymore since their ol' man left the earth.

Bluejays going for broke again, have a young, sabremetrics guy in Anthop who has no idea what a winner is in baseball. Orioles stood pat for the most part and lost a couple key cogs in last years run in steroid boy and Markakis who just had off season surgery and is with the Braves now. Still got Adam Jones and MLB let Davis take his prescribed meds, for his ADHS, which is a banned substance? Okey dokey!

More to come this off season I'm certain!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Do you think Steinbrenner kids don't care as much about baseball because their dad was so into it? Just speculation but maybe he rubbed them the wrong way, they don't have the passion for winning like he did

When the boys took over you could see the non-passion side of baseball in them when they talked. From what the radio monkeys have been saying, if they got the right offer (worth 2.7 billion on the open market), they would sell the club. They are more into other things than baseball and I am surprised they haven't put the club on the block. If the Dodgers got 1.2 billion what would the Bronx Bombers bring? Lots of history with this team and folks in that area who've been fans for their lifetimes would love to see the team sold.

I agree with your statement too BP, that the ol' man might have been a lil overbearing on the boys but he let them make their own minds up and they inherited his worth and work ethic. Building ships and so forth was George's forte, the boys are more interested in stock market, horses and the good life away from baseball.

Perhaps Jeter can get a conglomerate together and buy the club, but Jete ain't worth no 2.7 billion!!

Interesting to see the Padres making so many deals. They most definitely want to put the pinch on the Dodgers and Giants for sure.

Fried is going to be a good pitcher someday and the Braves got a good one in him once he comes back from TJ surgery. Live bodied lefty with 90+ fastball and decent breaking stuff. 6'4.

Kemp and Myers could be run producers in that ball park too, better on the road club are the Padres and they'll eat up the AZ & COL of the NLW as well as the sisters of the poor in the AL come next season.

Interesting hot stove this year. One of the most active I've seen in years and Max Scherzer still don't have a home. That's a nice statement to Scott Boras to get the fock out of being an agent!! He's a horses ass!! And MLB is tired of him as are his former players he was hooked up with.

Lee Steinberg can't stand him!!

Later!!

Good stuff this hot stove league!! :0074

Amaro Jr has some balls. He signs Chad Billingsley to a 1 yr deal, who was a top 5 starter for the Dodgers and still has some value if he can stay healthy. Arm and leg woes don't make a great combination to make a healthy return, but he's had over a year off, so hopefully he's got a fresh arm and ready to go, if not, nothing lost for Phil-ups!
