House Kills Draft Bill
To help stop rumors about an impending draft, the House pulled HR 163 out of committee, where it had been languishing since 2003, and subjected it to a vote of the full House. The bill was soundly killed by a vote of 402 to 2.

Interestingly, even the congressman who originally introduced the legislation, Charles B. Rangel (D-NY), voted against the bill. As there are no other draft-related legislation pending in the House, this effectively eliminates any chance of a draft in the immediate future.
