did you watch the ohio state game when oden lit up the xavier player who went flying off his feet out of bounds?
twice as bad and not an intentional foul....xavier hits 1-2, osu hits a three to tie, game over in ot.
Gin:
I officiated high school and college basketball for over 15 years so I guess I have some valid insight on this.
Oden's was a flagrant foul. The Butler guy being fouled was definitely intentional.
Since I quit officiating (about 10 years ago), I've found the officials, especially at the college level, are extremely hesitant to call those fouls correctly. The main reason is that they typically happen at the end of the game and the penalty for both those type of fouls is so harsh - 2 FT's AND giving the ball back to the team that was fouled.
It has put officials in the situation where they are afraid to make the right call so they don't.
They need to change the rule on this so officials can officiate the game correctly. Maybe 1 FT and the ball back? I don't know, but the officials today are chickenshit to make the correct call with the rule the way it is.
