Microsoft has finally released Internet Explorer 7. It has some nice features including a revised interface, tabbed browsing, improved printing features, and a phishing filter. However, during the time between the releases of IE6 and IE7, other companies have produced browsers that have similar or better features and many customers have started using these browsers like Firefox, Opera, and Avant, to name a few.

Unfortunately instead of just offering Internet Explorer 7 as an optional download, they are pushing it to customers via the Automatic Windows Update. Which means yah may wake up one day soon after leaving your computer on and have a brand new browser replacing Internet Explorer 6.0. This may seem fine for most people, but many people are simply resistant to much change and will find using IE7 more difficult than just using their current browser to surf the web. In these cases, you'll want to know how to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and keep it off your computer.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7:

Close Internet Explorer and any open windows
Click on Start, click on Control Panel
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs
Find the Internet Explorer 7 program
Click the Remove button and complete the removal. Your browser will revert to the last version of Internet Explorer yah had installed on your computer, in most cases this will be Internet Explorer 6.0

If yah cannot find Internet Explorer 7 listed in the Add/Remove Programs window, click the Show Updates checkbox at the top of the window to reveal it and then proceed with the removal.

Stopping Automatic Updates from downloading Internet Explorer 7 (IE7):

If IE7 was downloaded through the Windows Automatic Updates, you'll want to modify the updates so it doesnt download again. Follow the instructions below to do this:

Open Internet Explorer and go to:
windowsupdate.microsoft.com

When the Update page opens:
click on Custom
Uncheck the box for Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP
Check the box for Don't show this update again
Check the boxes for any other updates yah want to download and install them

Now IE7 wont show in your update list and you can continue to use Internet Explorer 6, Opera, Firefox, Avant, or any other browser yah want!!

Thanks KMA

I'm probably going to have to do this. My computer has been screwed up. Earthlink told me they have been having problems with #7. I have their fastest dsl connection and I do all the neccessary maintenance. I have to delete ALL my browsing history every day or so. If I don't, I get messages telling me there's a problem with my internet connection, when there isn't. I only go to a few sites each day.

Rex...I installed IE7 about a week ago when my friend was raving about it to me...

but I was and still am currently using Firefox..I really like using Firefox, most convenient for me...keeps it much simpler than IE7, and for us "cappers" I find it very useful to have those tabs...

IE 7 isn't that bad, one of the main complaints has been the menu bar, but there is a little hack for that to go to the top.

I have installed it on people's computers who don't want to use Firefox, but like others, I have IE7 but I also have Firefox and use it here at home

At work, we are still using IE6

I find it hard to believe that someone could LOVE Firefox but HATE IE7.

They are very similar in nature. I like both, and I think both are a huge improvement over IE6.

Change is a good thing, my friends. This is technology, and there will be bumps. But the sooner you learn to deal with the changes, the better.

At some point, products and web-services will not work with IE6 (anyone remember Netscape Gold?). It's not right around the corner, but you may as well be prepared.

The reason why I use IE7 about 75% of the time and Firefox 25% of the time is that I slightly prefer Firefox. The problem is that many web-based applications do not support it. The main one for me is Salesforce.com. I can not Mail Merge with Firefox.

I use Firefox 25% of the time because that is where I do most of my personal surfing and blog reading. i also have to test our products to make sure they work well on it.

Anyway, just an opinion.

Earthlink didn't have a good thing to say about #7.

Maybe it just F's up computers using their high speed dsl.

It can be extremely frustrating when capping a game and a screen comes out of nowhere telling you that something is wrong with your internet connection and you are unable to even go to your homepage. I have just run all my maintenance stuff, about hour 1/2 to 2 hours and will have to do it again in a day or so after going to a TOTAL of maybe 12 to 15 sites in that time period. If I don't do this, I most likely will be in for a surprise Saturday AM.

You got to love progress.

The dopes should have put the upgrade out there after vetting it with all other companies products. I really don't think that's too much to ask. Also, there may be an agenda of some sort here but we may not find out about that for some time.

As I said earlier....I have had them for years and had NO problems. I recently upgraded to the fastest they offer, what ever that is, and had NO problems. A couple weeks after I "upgraded" to #7, I had to call my ISP because of what was going on. As far as these type phone calls go, this one was rather short. They seemed to know rather quickly what was up right after they had me check a few things. Somehow the limited browsing history I compile immediately screws up #7 for me. You cap games so you will understand how aggravating it has been.

At the same time, I have always been able to break anything computer oriented. Might just be me.

I loaded IE 7 and did't like it so I dumped it. A few days later I tried it again. I still didn't like it so I dumped it again.

I've installed Firefox

Should I uninstall I/E totally?

I was thinking of keeping it a bit until I'm sure I'm happy with Firefox.
