I think this season has been a bit of a letdown for the Grayson Rams that started the year in the Top 10 Nationally and #1 in Georgia 7A polls. Rams have underachieved considering the team has a pantry full of D1 recruits. 4-2 is not what HC C Hunnicutt had in mind and the doors started to fall off before a snap was taken as the team was under the microscope when 2/3rds of the roster walked off during early August citing concerns with practices being too hard in the heat which led to multiple ambulance rides for dehydration and body cramps. Further complaints by parents and athletes over broken bones in hands due to excessive hitting and full contact drills. Coaches came under fire for calling kids "soft" and players threatened to quit. A team meeting was called and evidently Coaches listened as HC Hunnicutt tried to spin the walk off as a misunderstanding.
I guess you have to bottle feed players these days as when I played College and HSF you wouldn't think of walking out and my Coaches love to torment with no water and full contact. We did alright. Grayson opened with a sound thrashing against Tucker 48-7 but fell the following week 34-22 against New Jersey #1 Bergen Catholic 34-22.....3 weeks later Rams lost to Colquitt County 26-14.......Last week the team handled Shiloh 59-3 so maybe this program has found its stride. It will know tomorrow night when it meets rival Archer Tigers.
Archer is 5-1 and is celebrating 10 years of HSF (have reached play-offs in last 5) and has already a Dynasty record of 62-33 (39-19 in league). The Tigers have been long recognized as a Defensive team and have pitched 2 shut-outs this year and with the exception of a opening loss to Milton (21-19) have wheeled off 5 straight.... RB Samaje Banks (5' 10" 200 lbs) leads the offense with 404 yards on 56 carries and has caught 11 passes out of the back field for 112 yards with a combined 8 TDs. JR QB Carter Peevy has started since his Frosh year.... *Last season he passed for 2,038 yards w/20 TDs and a 61.2% completion. The natural leader is the spark that has Tigers averaging almost 40 ppg...... The team relies on a ball control offense and a nasty D that has D1 talent sprinkled all over.
Archer ranks #35 in the Nation and #4 in the State..... Grayson is ranked #46 nationally and #6 in the State... Rams have 5 players ranked in the Top 150...On D the Rams are holding opponents to 19.33 ppg... 3 returning O-Line Men are heading to Power 5 teams... Sr QB J'Kori Jones is sharing time with Jr CJ Dixon (6'5" 220 lbs) (has offers from Alabama, Georgia and Ohio St).... *Evidently the best QB in school is a 4 Star recruit that has opted to play basketball instead of football....Rams best RB Ronald Thompkins (Nebraska) blew his ACL out after the first game this season *Sadly, the poor kid did the same last season after the 1st game.
These two collided last year in a black and blue, bone crunching slug out that ended with Archer winning 6-3...History says this game will decide the Region 8 7A Championship as in the last 7 seasons the Region Champ has been one of these 2 schools.... Between the two, they lost a total of 3 games last year......
Grayson holds a 6-2 advantage in the series but Archer won't be intimidated by the talent on Grayson and has their own D1 talents so I expect another low scoring tug-of-war...
I lean to Grayson to get a little payback but think the value is in the Under here.
2 units on Under 47 LOSS
