Fairmont Senior -13

*All eyes on West Virginia for this afternoons game against rival schools that tend to play each other tough... Both come in at 3-0 but at first glance the nod definitely goes to Fairmont Senior Polar Bears *A very curios mascot for WV, no?..

Fairmonts National Rank is #877, #6 in Staten; #2 in Div
(WVSSAC (West Virginia Ranking Commissions) has 1) Bluefield 2) Fairmont Senior 3) Bridgeport)... The Bears have body slammed their first 3 opponents, and Starting QB Connor Neal so far has already amassed 980 yards on 51 of 72 pass through the air.. w/11 TDs... (he has several offers) as last year he tossed 31 TDs.... He has several weapons, but Starting RB Breeden Gilbert (leading rusher with 211 yards) and RB Caleb Walker (as a Jr accounted for 783 receiving yards & 10 rushing TDs w/8 more by the catch.....

Fairmont OL is gargantuan, Jr Zach Frazier (1st Timmy
SDeam All-State (6'3" 275 lbs) anchors both lines on Def and Off....As a Soph he recorded 83 Tackles, 26 for loss, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles with one recovered, a one man wrecking crew (*played with two departed WV Mountaineers on full ride)....

Bridgeport comes in ranked #2526 Nationally, #12 in the State and carries a Dynasty Record of 158-28 (87-7 in league).... HC John Cole is in his 2nd year and has has to do some major shuffling and hiring for the Indians Coaching Staff.... The program knows how to win and has captured 9 State Titles with last ones from 2013-2015.... The Offense last year averaged 32.4 ppg while allowing 15 ppg.... HC Cole has kept the offense the same, the team runs the Power Pistol and they make no qualms that they are a run first and when in doubt play Defense....

New QB Jr Devin Vandergrift (5'10" 150 lbs) did start a few games as a Soph when the starting QB went down with injury... He will hand the ball off to all everything RB Jake Bowen (6'1" 200 lbs) had an eye popping 1,916 yards w/26 TDs, he moonlights as Sam LB where he received accolades as 1st Team All-State selection... Bowen already has 480 yards on 51 carries (9.4 ypc) w/8 TDs..... Bowen has several colleges showing interest in the bruising RB..

The Defense wins Championships mentality means the Indians play Iron man football with their best athletes going both ways... The Mike LB is Jr Trey Pancake (6'0" 180 lbs) with a name like that what position would you expect him to play....

Fairmont Senior and Bridgeport game is the top draw in North Central W Virginia each year... Last season Bears won 14-10......in 2016, Indians won 17-14 in league but lost in the playoffs in a 2 OT heartbreak 22-21......This will be the 6th meeting since 2015, with each of the last 4 matches being 1 score games.... Of those 4 match-ups games have been decided by a total of 16 points : including 8 points in last 2...

Should be a good one, and I would heavily lean to a confident QB Connor Neal lead team, however, Neal's two biggest weapons coming out of the backfield starters Gilbert and Walker are hurt and won't play.... This plays into the hands of the Indians game plan of making teams one dimensional.... Granted Neal could go off and have a monster pass happy game, however, I'll side with history and back the Underdog with a pleasing +13 points.

Warren TX 58
O'Connor -23'

O'Connor Panthers take the field for a rivalry game against up and coming Warren Warriors.... Warren is seeking its 1st 3-0 start since 2007, when the team went 9-0....Warren is #3035 Nationally - #311 in State - #13 in Div......... O'Connor is #303 Nationally - #37 in State - #4 in Div....... Panthers have had great success behind the tutelage of HC David Malesky (79-44 overall, 73-29 @ O'Connor...

O'Connor was 13-1 last season before losing to Lake Travis in the 6A State Final 38-17... Their dynasty record stands at 129-55 (85-21 in league)....O'Connor slid by Warren last year 27-23....In 2016, the Panthers were 9-2 (defeated Warren 42-23)....Panthers have upended the Warriors 3 games straight....

QB David Dodd is currently 28 for 36 for 427 yards w/3 TDs...... RB Zion Taylor has 12 carries for 149 yards w/2 TDs... WR Sammy Castillo has 12 catches for 172 yards w/1 TD...... The Offense does whatever it seems to want running and passing behind OL Sr Brannon Brown (6'5" 300 lbs) *Has started every Varsity game since he was a Frosh......Jr Logan Parr joins in anchoring the OL (6'4" 285 lbs)..... Thus far the Offense has averaged 404.5 yards per game..

Warren's Defense will be its strength this year... The team has 9 Defensive Starters return.....The Teams HC Jeff Robins is in his first year... But was the teams Defensive Coordinator the last 9 seasons.. He replaces 16 year HC Bryan Dausin who resigned after last year's playoff loss to Judson 55-14........ Leading the team Offensively is QB Anthony Cisneros who is 10 of 19 for 193 yards w/3TDs through the air.

O'Connor is probably the better team here but almost having your whole defense back from a team that held O'Connor to 27 points and the fact is that O'Connor lost all starters in skill positions, means I will gladly take the +23' points and play the Under too.

2 units on Warren +23' WIN
2 units on the Under 58 WIN.. FS 14-7

Cherry Creek -18'
Pomona 43

Recommend taking a look at last week's HSF game write up between Valor Christian and Pomona to get some insight on what Pomona brings to the table.

Cherry Creek Bruins are ranked #1 in the State, and for good reason.... QB Alex Padilla passes for 2,600 yards last season, and he's tearing it up this year too... Last week against a very good Mullen team, Padilla (headed to Iowa) was 26 for 34 for 287 yards w/3 tds.... His go to WR Marcus Miller had 11 catches for 147 yards w/2 tds.

Cherry Creek is stocked with Div 1 talent and has outscored very good competition thus far 112-29.....Despite graduating 34 Seniors last year, this version is clicking on all cylinders.

It's a lot of points, but not sure Pomona has the offense to stay with the Bruins here.

North Gwinnett - 8'
Walton 58

Condensed Version -

Georgia has shown to have some quality HSF teams throughout the state.... Grayson is highly ranked, as is Colquitt County, Rome, Buford, and Archer are a couple of others....... How has Georgia climbed the ranks to be so well represented on a National stage; especially as many of the programs are public? ? Evidently, schools are paying their Coaches and making commitments to improve stadiums and facilities (IE : Weight Rooms)... I did a little investigating and found that 36 Coaches received over $100,000 in compensation (Colquitt County HC Rush Probst *might remember him from MTV "2 A-Days" when he Coached Alabama power Hoover... receives $132,000... Highest paid HC in Georgia.... (dang, where was this kind of cash when I Coached....

The two teams going at each other this afternoon rank highly in Georgia and the Nation, too..... North Gwinnett Bulldogs sit at #53 while Walton is #64.... Statewise, NG is #8 while Walton is #11..... Not much separating the two.

North Gwinnett had its 15 game win streak snapped 2 weeks ago against Wekiva (Apopka, FL)... The Bulldogs are the defending 7A State Champs, whose only loss in 2017 of its 14-1 record was to Walton 31-28.....The team went on to capture the State though behind a missed FG in a hard fought game against Colquitt County (19-17)...This year's version is averaging 37.3 ppg and minus the loss to out of state competition, is handling their business.... Teams dynasty record is 142-43 (91-23 in League games)...

The team has several potential Div 1 athletes this year... Starting RB Sr Tyler Goodson (5'10" 190 lbs) had over 1,400 yards rushing.. his explosiveness has him at 350 yards on 52 carries w/5 TDs (headed to Iowa)... QB JR Martin (6'2" 170 lbs) seems to have won the starting job and last week he was 11 of 17 completions for 242 yards w/4 TDs through the air..... Also, in the backfield is RB Jr Devin Crosby (rushed for 600 yards ly as a Soph..... The teams offensive strength lies in the play of 3 O Linemen (T. J. Skinner: Sr 6'2" 270 lbs/Justin Bullock: Sr 6'2" 272 lbs/Will Hamilton: Sr 6'2" 270 lbs) are all drawing heavy interest by D1 schools... The cookie cutter OL opens gaping holes for T Goodson and Co. Kicker Cameron Clark won the State Title for his team on a late FG over Colquitt (in the only loss to Walton, he had the game winning FG blocked.

On Defense, CB Warren Burrell (Sr 6'0" 175 lbs) is heading to Tennessee, Safety Quinton Newsome (6'2" 180 lbs) has offers from SEC and ACC country.... Some of the OL double down on the Defensive Line also.....

Walton Raiders are also on a game winning streak having won 14 of their last 15..... The 3-0 start has seen the Raiders lay the wood to opponents, and Raiders have a Dynasty Record of 123-53 (126-50)...Their last loss was to Colquitt County in the playoffs (28-21)

The Raiders will have the best player on the field, as Dominick Blaylock (6'0" 190 lbs) is a 5 Star recruit and heading to Georgia next year.. He has already caught 15 catches for 265 yards w/4 TDs.. The #31 Overall recruit in the class of 2019 will also line up in the back field and play iron man, playing CB on D........ QB Austin Kirksey (6'3" 205 lbs has 956 yards of total offense w/9 TDs, the Dual Threat QB has his Coach calling him one of the best in the state.... He's also the team's leading rusher with 159 yards on 25 carries..... Anchoring the OL is a 4 year starter OT Jared Jones (6'3" 330 lbs) the interesting thing is that the Mammoth nicknamed "Bear" not overly obese either... Leading WR Kendall Alford (5'10" 170 lbs) has caught 21 passes for 328 yards w/2 TDs..... The Defense has its share of D1 talent..

This looks like another punch you in the mouth type of game...... North Gwinnett will be looking for payback after last year's loss but I don't necessarily think that the Bulldogs are 8 points better.......

2 units on Walton +8' WIN... *Outright 27-24

2 units on the Over 58 LOSS

Clay-Chalkville 65
Pinson Valley -6

I recommend looking back at my Hoover vs Pinson Valley write up if you want in depth analysis of PV.... Tonight two of the top teams in Alabama go each other on the National stage.

Clay-Chalkville Cougars come in 3-0 and layed the hammer last week against Niceville 58-14 *wasn't very nice was it.... Offensive is averaging 41.3 ppg while Pinson is averaging 34.7 ppg.... In 2017, Cougars were 11-3 (but 2 of the losses were to PV 34-32 in regular season and 37-7 in the playoffs.....Cougs Dynasty record is 130-54 (138-46 league).. QB Willie Miller had 234 of offense last week (Team had 441 total yards)... Alabama commit DJ Dale is a man among boys.. At 6'2" 320 lbs he is ranked #10 on the Alabama A-List and besides closing gaps on the D Line he moonlights as the teams Wildcat in short yardage where he has scored 3 TDs.... Sr DB Demarcus Burris is also heading to a D1 school.

Pinson is currently ranked #1 in their Div. despite being annihilated on National TV to Hoover (52-14)...since then, it appears HC Patrick Nix has lighted a fire under them and they have rebounded with wins against Ramsey (41-12) and Shades Valley (49-7)..Their All-State QB Bo Nix, a 6'2" 210 lb Senior and Coaches Son, was the 2017 All-Birmingham Player of the Year with 2,877 yards w/35 TDs (actually missed 4 games due to injury) has started to get his sea legs under him....*Like I said, your welcome to look back at my Hoover-PV write up to see whose who on Indians roster...

This looks like a bad spot for Clay-Chalkville (besides having a school name that's more than a mouthful) I look for Nix and Co to keep rolling now that they have Hoover out of the way... I think 6 points is doable... And I like the Over here too..

2 units on Pinson Valley -6 WIN PV 28- CC 21 *Looks like the DeLaSalle score

Bishop Gorman 37
DeLaSalle -22

Two prep super mega powers coming in contact tonight.... At least, one of them is this year as Gorman has dropped out of the Top 25 in the National Rankings, while DeLaSalle sits at #10..... It would appear that Gorman has fallen on hard times with an opening loss to Mater Dei (42-0), then another loss to an Arizona power Centennial (13-7).....before turning it around with a win against a good Utah team, Orem (31-21)...

DeLaSalle Spartans are the northern Cal gold standard for all schools to emulate in the Bay Area north... HC Justin Alumbaugh has seen unprecedented success after he took over for the Legend Bob Ladacoer after the record setting National streak of games came to an end.... It was Ladacoers program that schools all over the US wanted to copy for success which actually paved the way for where we are today with mega power programs flying all over the country to represent their State and to ultimately try to win acclaim as "mythical" National Champions...... Bishop Gorman figured it out and won 3 times National Titles back when QB Tate Martell (now Ohio St QB) was engineering the offense and winning 55 consecutive games.

So now all eyes are on Gorman, winners and defending Nevada State Champs 8 times over, as pundits try to figure out how the Gaels weren't able to score a single point against Mater Dei despite 6 red zone attempts.... Also, only managed 7 points to Centennial out of Arizona in a 13-7 loss..... Finally, last week against Orem, Utah things started to click and goals were starting to form as the Offense scored 31 in a (31-21 win) and the team with over a dozen Div 1 recruits put their offensive woes behind them (only averaging 84.6 ypc and 199.6 yards through the air.... The ground game has nothing to lose as it seeks a better solution to 2.7 yards per carry on the ground. QB Micah Bowen has thrown twice as many INTs(5) as TDs (2)....

This years Spartans know that tonight's game is time for redemption and frankly an embarrassing representation that showed Spartans didn't compete in last year's woodshed visit to the desert, a 34-7 loss (*Teams have only played twice in history, a 28-14 win in 2010.....

Spartans are much improved in all facets of the game... On Defense, the team is lead by a Top 100 player RB/LB Henry To' oto'o (6'2" 220 lbs) and Sr TE/DE Isaiah Foskey (6'5" 240 lbs)... On offense, QB Dorian Hale is a dual threat and avidly recruited.... The MVP to this point is Jr RB S Barrett who in last week's 33-15 win over St Francis, he rushed for 155 yards w/2 TDs (also a 85 yard INT return for a score)..... The Defense is a veteran group with several Power Div 1 Programs recruiting.....

Spartans Dynasty record of 188-17 (28-0 League) is incredible..... The State Championship Banners are too numerous to count.... Noone is making any excuses but the program seemed to drop off there for a while as while DeLaSalle is the class of northern CA, it didn't appear they were keeping up with the Joneses, or in this case, the programs South like Mater Dei, St John Bosco, Centennial, etc..... So far, with wins against defending State Champ Folsom (14-0) and another State Champ Cent Catholic (35-7)...wins against Bishop O'Dowd (58-16) and St Francis (33-15)....the table appears to be set to run the table to the CIF Div 1 Open Championship where hopefully they will compete....

HC Justin Alumbaugh is taking nothing for granted here... He's been going over last years tape several times despite saying, "it made me sick".... The Defense is much improved and held high flying Folsom to 0 points in the opener (Folsom has since gone on to score 161 points in 3 games).....also holding Power C Catholic to 7 points is a major feat... *My friend is HC at the program and we played College Ball together, his take was simply "they're back).....

So they question remains can DeLaSalle turn the tide and get revenge and redemption against a very proud program? Can they cover the -22 that the books have placed here? I think DeLaSalle wins but I'll take the points..

2 units on Bishop Gorman +22 WIN.. DLS 28-BG 21

Mission Viejo -4'
Upland 48

Interesting match-up pitting a highly ranked Div 1 Mission Viejo against a highly ranked Div 2 team, Upland.... Both are undefeated with the Diablos sporting a 4-0 record while Upland is 3-0.......There is a common opponent.. MV beat LA Habra 28-14, while Upland won 24-12.....not much can be gleaned from those scores I'm afraid.. Anyone who has read my stuff over the past couple of years knows that I'm a big proponent of CIF-SS as the competition week in and out is always tight.... Diablos have been my sleeper team each year as I always secretly root for the upset over Bosco or Mater Dei, just hasn't happened yet unfortunately, although Diablos always play at a high level..... My southern buds love to chop it up and one of my pals was an assistant Coach at MV so my connection may be a little biased...
. MV is under new tutelage this year as Legendary HC Bob Johnson retired at the end of 2017, as the 3rd winningest Coach in Cal Gridiron History.....The school has a dynasty record of 170-24 (172-22-1 in League)

Taking over for Bob Johnson is HC Chad Johnson, a former Offensive Coordinator at St John Bosco.... Johnson has 5 returning Offensive starters as well as 6 Defensive returners.... Back is the Starting QB, RB, WR and Top Defenders....As with any major Coaching change there is bound to be some growing pains along the way... Fortunately, there is Senior leadership to make up for some of the inexperience....

Returning QB Joey Yellen (Sr 6'3" 220 lbs) (Arizona St Full Ride), had more than 3,000 yards last year, this season through 4 games, he has 80 completions on 121 attempts for 1,167 yards w/10 TDs passing *6 TDs have been called back for holding penalties and 5 passes have been dropped in the end zone........ RB Jamari Farrell has rushed for 320 w/5 TDs...... WR Jojo Forest (5'10" 185 lbs) has 24 receptions for 415 yards w/3 TDs.

Upland Highlanders/Scots were 12-1 in 2017... They lost a heart breaker to Oaks Christian in the State Final when an errant pass was picked off for 6 in the waning seconds of the ball game..... HC Tim Salter has his team playing at a high level and Upland is notorious for having home field advantage.....Schools dynasty is 136-48 (57-18 in league).

QB has been an issue as a talented Jr QB David Baldwin left school to transfer to IMG in Florida... Jr QB Evan Rowe has 31 completions in 47 attempts for 408 yards w/3 TDs (3 INT).....transfer QB Cole Boop came from Calvary Christian where as a Frosh he received All American honors, however, the few times he's been in this year, hasn't been good..... Oregon commit WR Taj Davis (6"2" 185 lbs) is a big target and RB Cameron Davis (6'0" 180 lbs) has rushed for 434 yards w/4 TDs on 56 carries.(hes headed to Washington).... CB Zahran Manley (6'2" 175 lbs) is a Cal commit.... Also Jr LB Justin Flow (6'2" 225 lbs) leads the defense with 27 tackles w/2 sacks, the Class of 2020 is the #4 recruit overall and the Top rated player in Cal....

So here's my dilemma, both teams have great skill players, big strong trench players, good special teams, and good Coaching...... The Defenses have their share of Div 1 talent..... It's no secret that I like MV, but think I'll take the points here as MV has had too many penalties that have killed drives and Upland is a tough venue...

1 unit on Upland +4' LOSS *MV 41-Up 8 *This loss is why I need to go with my instinct.. Bigger Div schools means loss to lower Div

2 units on the Over 48 WIN.. 49 is a winner right? *Despite 2 good Defenses, I think we will see some scoring here.

Gl and sorry it's late
