HOUSTON: The Astros announced they will call up RHP Tim Redding from Triple-A New Orleans to take the Sunday start for injured Roy Oswalt. Redding was 10-2 with a 2.18 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 90 2-3 innings at Double-A Round Rock before being called up to New Orleans last week. In one start for the Zephyrs, he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts in seven innings. ``I talked to (New Orleans pitching coach) Jim Hickey and (manager) Tony Pena,'' Astros GM Gerry Hunsicker said. ``I convinced myself the kid deserves a chance.'' Hunsicker said how long Redding stays up has not been decided and will be based at least in part on how well he does. ``I'm open-minded,'' he said. Redding could accompany the team to Arizona on Monday as insurance in case Oswalt's bruised right forearm is not better ... OF Richard Hidalgo went to Diagnostic Hospital on Friday night to receive intravenous fluids and antibiotics for a case of tonsillitis. He was released and missed Saturday's game, but club officials say he has made a quick recovery and will probably be in uniform Sunday. They doubt, however, if he will play.
