Phil Hughes will be activated from the disabled list and will make his first start since May
The Minnesota Twins announced that they will return right-handed pitcher Phil Hughes from his rehab assignment at Single-A Ft. Myers and reinstate him from the 10-day disabled list. Hughes is scheduled to start tomorrow at Tampa Bay.
Hughes strained his left oblique at the end of Spring Training and has missed all 15 games this season. He made two rehab starts for the Miracle, pitching 10.0 innings allowing three earned runs while recording nine strikeouts. Hughes, who appeared in just 14 games last season, was placed on the disabled list July 18 with his second thoracic outlet syndrome surgery (he also had the surgery in 2016). His last appearance was July 14, 2017 at Houston.
To make room for Hughes on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned left-handed pitcherGabriel Moya to Triple-A Rochester. Moya made five relief appearances for the Twins this season.
