I wanted to start this last year but never got around to it. I would like this to be a hunting thread that we can bring up year round. We can exchange info and techniques or just discuss other hunting and fishing issues. I would like to know when, where, and what people hunt. What is your favorite hunting season, etc. I will start but would love to hear from other hunting enthusiast's. I was an avid hunter and fisherman when I was younger and into my high school years, but haven't had time to get outdoors much in the last ten years. With my career in place I now am starting to make time to get back into the outdoors. I recently got on a year round, full access hunting, fishing and whatever else I want to do on it, lease. It is 4,000 acres and there are 8 people on it. It is in North Central Texas about an hour west of Ft. Worth. It is amazing. Deer, dove, turkey, hogs, ducks and it backs up to a lake and has a nice creek running through it for fishing.

My favorite time of year is coming up (Fall, Winter) and I would love to hear other peoples hunting stories and ideas

Thanks
CM

My real passion is for waterfowl, but unfortunately, I'm far enough off the flyway I get very little local hunting in. Just got back from a great trip to Sask, and we always have a lot of fun there.

Have a 100 acre farm for deer and turkey, and I am a fairly avid bowhunter, but my back limits that a bit. Just started turkey hunting this year, and I really enjoyed that even though I didn't harvest a bird.

Really enjoy a good dove shoot too.

I like to hit the Crappie in the Spring when they are bedding up, and I like to catch 'gills on the bed. I care nothing about LM fishing, and I consider myself to be a fair weather fisherman.

I have always been into Lake Mich fishing. There is nothing like hooking a 25lb chinook and having him peel off almost all of your line.

I have never been deer hunting but the wife finally convinced me to give it a try this year. I can see me falling out of the stand now:D . She is into hunting big time. In fact she just left to go Turkey hunting for the weekend.

I keep telling her that I will have my deer on opening morning and I will be out of the woods by 8am. After that she can reach me at the casino up the road.:D

SixFive,

Do you hunt in Kentucky?

I am going to try duck hunting for the first time this year. A couple of the guys on the lease love to do it, and I am up for anything new. I have to get all this outdoor activity out of my system by January as we are expecting our first child. (a boy)

One of the reasons I got on this year round lease is the time I hope I will be able to spend with my son out there. It is not often that these types of places come available so I jumped at the opportunity. The guys that were on it before my group were on it for 15 yrs. I hope to post pictures of the place so you guys can see how awesome it is. I love being out there.

I too am an avid bowhunter....whitetails and Turkeys....

I am fortunate enough to live in Iowa and have access to 500+ acres of timber/cropland/CRP to hunt in three different counties(all free by the way, all it costs me is a little gift package at the end of the season). I like chickenman spend way too much time at work and not enough in the field, but in my line of work that will never change:(

On a side note a 15 year old boy harvested "Iowa's Walking World Record" during youth season....green scores as the biggest buck ever taken by a hunter 320"

Good luck this year and post some pics:D

joebell--

500+ acres? VERY nice. My brothers and I own 200+ acres in Muscatine Co that is a combo of CRP land and woods. I only hunt pheasant(opening day is the same as the Penn State game, guess I won't get any birds until Sunday..:D ) but my brother is a big bowhunter of turkeys and whitetails, as is my neighbor. When we moved in and he heard about our land, his eyes got really big and the next day he was over with a bunch of deer jerky and sausage...LOL. And yes, him and his crew hunt whitetails on our land and between my brothers and him I don't lack for deer meat....

I have been an avid hunter since my grandfather bought me my first gun when I was ten years old. He used to take me quail hunting every weekend and would get to go pheasant hunting in South Dakota once a year.

Now I am more into whitetail and turkey hunting as I don't have the time to hunt every weekend like I used to. I am part owner of a 440 acre farm in NE Missouri that is about 2 miles from the Iowa border and about 25 from Illinois. We also have access to an 1100 acre farm right next to ours, so we have no shortage of ground to hunt. We are doing as much of the CRP program as we can and have turned some of the bottom groung into a marsh to try and attract as much wildlife as possible to our farm. We only harvest big bucks and are letting the younger ones go, so hopefully in a few years we will have a large herd of trophy deer.

I am usually somewhat of an unlucky person, but not so in deer hunting. I have four "wallhangers" to my credit, a 14,12,11, and a 10 pointer that I have mounted. The 14 was the first deer I ever got, so that kind of spoiled me.

Great thread and will be interested to hear what kind of luck everyone has during deer season this year. Good Luck
