Is the fault of the refs or because the players are on the take. I know that sometimes I am just wrong.

However, the no call by the guard vs Jordair Jett the play before the go ahead 3 in the SLU v Bonnies game was ATROCIOUS.
I feel like this year more than others the referees have gotten worse. I feel like that as the game speeds up we are seeing the quality of the refs stay the same and thus they are missing bang bang calls. I liken this to the Algerian referee trying to ref Argentina vs England. The ref is so much slower and not used to seeing such high level of play that they miss things. The same is going on today in College basketball.

Just a comment... It can be a bitch and moan thread but more I just find it intriguing that the players are getting more athletic and better but the refs are not...

I have to agree with you about the game being too fast for the referees. It is mind boggling to me that these fat bastards keep their jobs. They should have to be fit to referee these games, and they should have mandatory retirement by 50 IMO. Those old eyes and fat guts make it nearly impossible for them to tell what's going on in the game. Many times, it seems like they are simply guessing about what is happening out there.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt...

I try to give the benefit of the doubt...

Refs are given rule tests and I think they should be given physical fitness tests. The top fit refs + the highest scoring rules refs should get to ref the higher conferences.

There have been some HORRIBLY ref'd games recently. However, there have been some very impressively controlled games... It is a hard fucking job. I could not do it.

Four refs is the solution. Don't tell me the NCAA can't afford it. Fuck it.... let the MEDIA pay for it. You don't see anyone at ESPN-- CBS or any of the other starving :0008

I forgot about Jett getting mugged....crazy game.....that is why none of us are retired in the caymans...good luck this week...

There is a shortage of officials here in the midwest. They have been trying to recruit some new blood into the ranks. I'm not sure as to how the entire process works but a friend tells me that the school/training is pretty expensive. Its a tough and thankless job.

FCP...

FCP...

I have heard that... it is thankless and from what I have heard it is the 2nd jobs of some of these guys? I think that is a shame. I think if you are a ref who is calling Major College Basketball you should be well compensated. We know there is MORE THAN ENOUGH money exchanging hands... Hence the continual resistance to change. I am just rambling. I just feel like this year, especially, I have gotten ref'd more than others...

I have mad respect for refs.. most of the time.
