I Cant Watch Sportscenter Anymore!

I just do not speak Stewart Scotts language. Does anyone? Not only that, I dont even think I am on the same planet as this guy anymore. Its gone from "BOOYAH" on home run calls to a whole new dialect he has developed for this show.

Did anyone catch the Bengals-Steelers segment? Do we still need to stereotype the sidewards-hat gangbangers and their slang on national TV? Literally this guy has made the show unwatchable to me. Since I have the dish I guess I will have to start catching NESN Sportsdesk in the morning or find another show to watch. This guy is absurd. The worst part is guys like Chris Van Pelt, the nerdy golf guy, are starting to take up his act.

Actually, I totally agree with you. I think that Cinci/Pitt segment was his little statement to everyone who's complained about his style. He intentionally went overboard and even said "this is who I am" (I don't think so), and you shouldn't judge a person by their appearance or whatever. Notice the sharp-dressed version of him was the one using all the slang and the sideways baseball cap one was the one giving the attempted intelligent analysis. Anyways I am sure that's why he was doing it, but it was a little much for the 5 minutes or so that he did it.

He just makes himself look stupid acting that way. One story he's all slang and hyperbole. Then another time this week he does a story on a mentally challenged kid playing football and the other team letting him score a TD, and he does the whole thing intelligently and tastefully and doesn't slide in one bit of slang. The guy is Jekyl and Hyde.

There comes a point where a trend becomes the norm, and then it is just not cool anymore. It has come to that point with the schtick that all these guys do now. The Kenny Mayne's and Stuart Scott's, and their copycats just aren't entertaining anymore. Not really sure they ever were actually.

I can't watch Sportscenter anymore when he is on. It's a joke.

ESPN also gave him the studio gig for their NBA games. Another great move. What could be an even worse move though was hiring Tim Hardaway as a studio 'analyst'. The guy can't even form a simple sentence. It's painful yet hilarious listening to him try and form a coherent sentence or statement.

That's funny. I was thinking the same thing when I had the T.V. on for background noise and working at my computer. I had to stop what I was doing for a second and asked myself "What the f*ck is this guy doing?!!" ESPN must be trying to appeal to the Marshall Mathers (M&M) demographic. What a plateau to strive for. BooYaaah Dawg!

I keep seeing commercials for this new show "Around the Horn". I can't wait to hear this idiot. He butchers the language doing his so-called fight analysis. Now he has a show of his own. More of the 'Dumbing Down' of America.

You would think that these guys would take a clue from Boomer (not Esiason) and Tommy Jackson. I look forward to their analysis every week, before and after the games. They throw in just enough slang to make things entertaining yet they stick to the grammatical rules of English and come as across as both entertaining and intelligent. I also must say that I enjoy Sterling Sharpe, Jaworski, Mortenson, et al for the most part.

Speaking of that idiot with the 'Around the Horn' show, how, exactly, do you suppose he spells s-p-o-r-t-s? I've tried some variations to acommodate his particular speech defect:

I absolutely cannot stand Scott at all. I am not black so I don't get his language, sayings etc etc. He flat out sucks in my opinion.

I used to think Mayne was extremely annoying, but I'd take him over Scott

Stuart Scott is a sorry excuse for a sports anchor. I'm with most of you - with all of his references to dawgs, playas, and hatin' the playa but not the game (or the other way around???), I usually forget who was playing in the highlights they just showed.

Then of course, there's Linda Cohn. She actually speaks English, but she's so bad I kind of wish she would do a Stuart Scott routine - just for the comedic value.

The one with the guy going "Hear Ye, Hear Ye....I CANNNNNNOT pick a winner!!". "What do you MEEEEEEEANNN??" etc etc (Actually I think I almost have the whole commercial memorized)

Who came up with that irritating, agitating piece of crap?? I dive for the remote now everytime that thing comes on.

The talking heads get points for saying something that Max agrees with. Sound effect, when points are given out, sounds like someone cranking a jack-in-the-box. Appropriate.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one fed up with ESPN. As a whole, it is just old and worn out. Stuart Scott was refreshing five years ago but the same routine has gotten tiresome. I actually heard him say "cool as the other side of the pillow" the other night when I had SC on for some odd reason. I couldn't believe he was still using it. It's like Dice Clay doing his poems today...it's over...find something else. The exact same can be said of Chris Berman. The nicknames were catchy but they are over. This guy is the most obnoxious guy on the channel. And then there is the Sunday night football crew. I have said this before but this is the worst crew ever put together. Mike Patrick overdramatizes every play with his annoying inflection of every syllable of every word. Theismann is just an idiot and McGuire's best line is "Watch this!". Listen, I am watching the fricking game! I am not changing a tire and need you to tell me when to watch the screen. What makes things worse is that they put Patrick on NCAA hoops which means I cannot bear to listen to those games either. Oh, I almost forgot Suzy Kolber. How in the hell does a voice like that get broadcasted on national tv???

I try to catch PTI regularly. I used to watch Baseball Tonight until the strike threat ruined what little taste I still had for baseball. So that leaves me to only watch the live games...all with the sound off of course. Congrats ESPN!

I sure am glad Avery Johnson is still playing. Could you imagine him teamed up with Hardaway in the studio? My oh my...

I think the guys on sportscenter are funny for the most part. I could do without Berman, but his presentation is ok.... I think he lacks some innate understanding of sports outside of football.

They take shots at some athletes who do stupid things or quirky things. I find it humorous. I think they just take the slang that the players use and put it on a more national spotlight. Think about the way you talk about a game when you're sitting the bench -- we used half the expressions they use now ages ago. Maybe it just shows that I'm an idiot, who knows.

If you really want to talk about the dumbing down of America, watch the news channels. Connie Chung is an idiot and half the people on those stations discuss important topics with the vocabulary of a 7 year old.

I like Stewy. If I want proper English and no fun, I'll watch the sports segment on MSNBC or my local affiliate. I really like the commercials with the athletes and mascots inside the ESPN building and the NBA ads with all the players in a big house doing chores etc.

You all would really hate ESPN radio. They have a lot of fun on there too.

I agree about Sportscenter, other than Nick Bakay's segment I see hardly anything worthwhile and even the commercials are not as funny as before. As for PTI, didn't really now what to think at first but it has grown on me. I really like it. :shrug:

that's funny, I am never amused by Nick Bakay. He just looks like a sloppy idiot -- his character obiviously, not him -- I don't know him from Adam. I always wondered how he got on, but I guess he's got his fan base, too!
