It boggles my f...king mind how some of you can't get it though your thick ass skulls how the godd... line is determined????
We have gone over this at least a 100 f...king times and yet some of you just can't grasp the concept.
This is the last f...king time I going to say anything about the Vegas line
so here
In 1940 at
the out break of WW11 the NAVAL OBSEVITORY hired this guy doing his doctorate in some high level Mathmatics and he started a program of projecting football scores.well you guys know why they wanted mathematic dr.s working for the Navy...that's right to break codes but anyway that program has run since the 40s.well who wants matmatical projectors of football games??? That's right casinos in las vagas. The guy that originally set the Vegas line worked at the downtown sports book at
UNION PLAZA he got the Naval observatory program and started setting lines off of it.They have been setting lines off this program ever since. No Voodoo or any other kind of horseshit I have read on here about this and that blah, blah, the books want this team to win and blah, blah bulls hit that I read on the Internet all the time. Jeez.....
If you want to see what the fucking line is going to be go to the Naval observitory site which has been bought out by sagin and USA Today and look the f....king thing up.
A book can post whatever they want as their opening line but you can bet your sweet ass it want be far from the onservitorys program what they do is pay a service to post a line for them LVSC who have been posting lines since main started in I think the 60s or 70s I would have to look it up but I have spent too much time talking about this simple ass shit already.j
Now let's stop all this line voodoo bullshit and get to analyzing the games to see which side of the line us gamblers want to be on.....
Damn how many times to I have to post this shit???

screw the decaf, worry about checking your story. The Naval Observatory doesn't have anything to do with this. The guy's name was Charles Kline.

Charles Kline McNeil[1] (16 August 1903 ? 7 April 1981)[2][3] is the inventor of the point spread in sports gambling.[4] McNeil earned a Master's Degree from the University of Chicago. He then taught math at the Riverdale Country School in New York and in Connecticut. His students included John F. Kennedy. He was also a securities analyst in Chicago.[4] While gambling on the side, he developed the point spread, betting not on the probability of the final outcome, but on the expected difference in score. He eventually opened his own bookmaking operation in the 1940s.[4] Charles McNeil method is used today in different areas: anything from basketball to poker. He started the new method of trading and changed the way people bet.[5]

If NE wins, and they look sharp so far, NE -1 1/2 is where it should be, but it'll be posted higher to get money on both sides and total at 53 1/2!!

;)

And I had cafeinated thank you very much!!

You're suggesting books don't take positions on games and you're wrong.

Books don't take positions on a game in the sense that they go into the matchup expecting/hoping for one team to come out on top. The win/loss is irrelevant to them when they are setting the lines.

Now, come game time - YES, a book can have a position on a game. It isn't an independently formed position, it's simply a result of where the money is.
If the money is not balanced, then obviously... they have a position on the game and are cheering for one team over another. But it had nothing to do with them coming up with a line on the game.
