How much does over-hyping effect a team?

here's why I ask....This week Iowa goes to the Big House to play Michigan...Well Gameday was in Iowa City this week doing interviews with Brad Banks(qb) and Fred Russell(rb). Articles in the Des Moines register all week has been about the freaking Rose bowl, Orange bowl and other BCS bowls. If we beat Michigan I'm sure they'll start talking what needs to happen to get us to the Fiesta.....All this bowl talk and we still have tough games against Wisky and Minnesota.

I guess my question is.....Does it effect(postive or negative) a team that is not used to so much hype?

One of the reason I ask is the game between ISU/Ok. It's kind of the same scenario with that game...Seneca was interviewed with gameday and the papers were hyping up ISU.

If that made any sense to anyone and you have any insights or opinions it would be appericiated

I think the difference between Iowa and Iowa St is that the Iowa TEAM is getting the run, but still not a lot of respect. I think the TEAM will still use that as motivation, not to mention that with lesser teams they have had three straight near misses against Michigan and they are a second half implosion against Iowa St from being unbeaten. Now that that game happened to them, I don't think they get overconfident at all. Iowa St had all of the hype around Seneca Wallace for heisman rather than the TEAM getting hyped and that can wear on the rest of the team moreso in my opinion.

I like dogs that average more yards per carry and allow less on the ground. Iowa defense is getting bad mouthed when in realty they are only 27 yards worse than the overhyped Michigan defense which was SUPPOSED to be one of the best in the country and is far from it. Iowa much more balanced on offense and I think they are the best team in the BIG 10, Ohio St included and will prove it Saturday. They also have a HUGE edge in the kicking game and don't be surprised to see that decide it.

on another site regarding this exact subject....last week all you saw on tv were seneca wallace and the kid from air force....i believe this is a detriment to the team and the player involved....as we saw last week, not only did the respective teams get handled, but, the players had ridiculously poor individual performances....i liken it to an overwhelming favorite in a high profile game(the night games involving denver and cleveland vs the ravens).......most,including the players apparently, thought all that was needed was the proverbial jocks thrown on the field to win....you see this kind of psychological let down all the time........good point.
