On the course!
I don't like the fact that totals have to go 8' innings to count.

If a game can be "official" after 5' innings, and your bet is a winner or loser at that point, why aren't totals and run lines counted?

Especially the totals, if it has already went "over"! There is no way that the score can be pared, so why not pay off the wager? This is one of the most idiotic things I have ever encountered, as a bettor.

I don't care what kind of logic you wish to counter with, you simply cannot. The total was decided the second it went "over".

I find it quite odd that a book considers a game "official" for sides, when either team could still win, in theory, yet will refund a wager that has already seen it's outcome! (totals)

Of course, someone will say, "You get saved by this, too."

That is not the point. I would think that 100% of the betting population would rather have the total stand, if it has already been met, than would want the "wash".

What is your oppinion?

I'll never forget the first time it happened to me. The two teams had went over by the 3rd. My jaw dropped to the floor when I found out I didn't have a winner, kinda like when I got home today and found out Houston/Arizona went over.

Think it's best how the rules are now. If you want the 'totals' to stand in such cases where you have games called, you'd have the books never putting a line out until moments before a game....because if you're expecting them to pay the over when the game becomes official, the same rule would have to apply to bettors that played the Under in which case the books would end up going out, because you'd have people eyeballing the weather bigtime to take advantage plus like I said, the books wouldn't even think about putting a total up until they know the weather and may not even put one up anyways because of it.

WorldWager grades bets if they have been called after 5 innings, i think a game should be compleated to be graded, but on the other hand, MLB will call a game in the 6 inning so why should the bookies not?

dont like it either

I think that Gamebookers if a game is official after 5' innings totals and run lines count. Of course my local books count totals for baseball after 5' innigs if a game is official and for basketball in regulation. But my local books not operate online.

I don't think some of you got yyz point. Example you have the Cardinals over 9, at the end of 6 innings the cards are ahead 7 - 3. To me if you bet the over you should win, and if you bet the under you should lose, plain and simple. But if at the end of 6 the cards are ahead 3 - 1 and the game is cancelled by rain, all over / under bets should be refunded. It has happened both ways for me.

The answer is simple. With sides, there is very little correlation between the winning side and length of game. One could argue more rested bulpen and some other things, but, for example let's say Randy Johnson was facing Pedro and before the game started, I told you it was only going to go 6 innings. Probably wouldn't change your wager all that much. But with totals? Absolutely. There is a huge correlation between a winning ticket and the duration of the game. Like somebody said above, weather can change drastically in the span of just a few hours. If you told me that all games today were going to be rain-shortned, I'd bet all unders.

In addition, if a book is going to grade ALL totals on shortened games, it would HAVE to treat unders the same way. In the example you presented, I beleive you're only looking at it from the perspective that the game has already gone over the total when you say "you get saved by this too". Not necessarily. In contrast, let's say when the game was called, it had not gone over, it in fact, was still UNDER. Would it be fair to grade an "Over 8.5" ticket as a loss if the game was called at 5-3 in the 6th inning? If this were the case, you'd see totals in the 5 to 6 range. You can't have 2 or more sets of rules depending upon what the score is. If so, hell.............gimme the over then. If it goes over, I win and if it doesn't, I get my money back. I can't lose.

Unless you are predominantly an over player, it shouldn't matter because like you said, it will help you as well. I think it would be good PR for the books to pay off on the overs, however. There are actually very few rain-shortened games during the course of a season so any difference to their bottom line would be miniscule.

jr,

I think you have missed my point, too.

I don't think grading the shortened game is fair if:

  • You have either side.
  • You have the runline
  • The total has not been exceeded.

For simple reasons.......ANYTHING could still happen! I think your money should be refunded on all of the above wagers, if the game didn't go the entire distance.

But, IF the total has already went over the number you have, THAT wager is done! There is no chance that the total would ever go back below the number, so why not pay/collect the wager?

Let me ask this:

If you had your choice, would you play at a book that did it this way, or not?

The simple, undisputable fact remains..........that wager has already been decided, so why screw with it?
