Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Conventional wisdom says favorites are lousy in the last week of the season. Not so, according to The Gold Sheet.

Year HomeFav RoadFav
2000 7-4-0 2-2-0
1999 6-3-1 2-3-0
1998 5-4-0 4-2-0
1997 6-6-1 1-1-0
Totl 24-17-2 9-8-0
Grand = 33-25-2

In the next to last week, the favorites are 21-36-3.
("Pick" not included by counting those games as a push.)

Regardless, there are probably more opportunities these days in a St. Mary's basketball game or a Thrashers hockey game. If you like that sort of thing.

New England(-6.5) @ 2*
Confident and consistent and fresh, I'm hoping the Pats don't let this game come down to a single possession.

Kansas City/Seattle(Over 39) @ 2*
Close to the vest or all out. You decide.

Dallas(-3) @ 1*
I was thinking (but not wagering) that Detroit would have shown signs of whatever last week against the Bears. And maybe history is on my side. In their first seasons, Chuck Noll was 1-13, Bill Walsh was 2-12, and Jimmy Johnson was 1-15. I don't know Marty Mornhinweg, but Marty Mornhinweg is no Bill Walsh. Hopefully, with Mornhinweg, one is enough.

Chicago(-5) @ 1*
Everything I have seen for some time tells me Chicago is the play here.

Seattle(-3) @ 1*
Seattle has won 4 games this year by exactly 3 points, so I bought the 1/2 point. Kansas City will be a live dog, but Holmgren's teams at home speak for themselves.

Tampa Bay(-3) @ 1*
An odd set of circumstances for this scrimmage. I think Philly would need an edge to their play to out battle the Bucs in a closer at Tampa. I see Tampa is the pick by 29/35 = 83% of the coin flippers in the Hilton contest.

Tennessee(-5) @ 1*
Because it's there.
