* Minnesota Wild: Wild right winger Marian Gaborik said Monday he expects to begin skating this week in hopes of returning soon from a strained groin. Gaborik, who has missed the past four games, said he's feeling "a lot better." Also, center Wes Walz, who missed Sunday's game at Colorado because of a leg injury, expects to skate before today's practice. Like Gaborik, he's listed as day-to-day. Although Walz won't say for sure, it appears he aggravated the strained hip flexor that recently kept him out of two games. - Star Tribune
* Detroit Red Wings: RW Mikael Samuelsson practiced and said he would be ready to play Wednesday against the Flames. "Feeling as good as I can be," Samuelsson said. Defenseman Eric Cairns was recalled from a minor-league conditioning assignment with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. . He has not played a game with the Penguins this season. Coach Michel Therrien said there was "no timetable" for Cairns' return.
