Idaho - Perrion Callandret, Foot - is out indefinitely

Montana latest road trip brought the Griz to Greeley, Colorado, a rather simple journey that includes a flight to Denver and short bus ride to Northern Colorado. But the back end of the two-game swing was considerably less simplistic.

Once they arrived in arctic Grand Forks around 3 p.m. Friday, Montana's practice plans were thrown into disarray. What is being deemed a miscommunication between North Dakota and Montana pushed the Grizzlies' practice time back and eventually left them without one, DeCuire said Tuesday.

"It put a lot pressure on our prep. I think that?s part of the reason we got such a slow start," DeCuire said.

Montana had to use a 10-1 run in the closing 3:37 to pull out a 65-61 win over the Fighting Hawks. That came less than 48 hours after holding off Northern Colorado in a seven-point win, which means the Griz have prevailed in double overtime and two games decided by less than six points, an outcome they were 1-3 in before Big Sky play began.

The wins flipped the Grizzlies' early season road woes and has them plus-4 in the away win column. By contrast, the rest of the league is 10-18, with Weber State the only other Big Sky team without a conference road loss.

Still, Montana isn't resting on its recent success success away from Dahlberg.

"To start off at 4-0 on the road, you feel like you?ve got a couple in your pocket," DeCuire said. "But I still think it puts pressure on. You still have to win at home and we have two good teams coming in this week that think they are still good enough to win a championship and they?re still in the race and in a good situation. ... We feel good about where we?re at, but there?s not enough space for us to be excited about it."

It explains why DeCuire half seriously joked with the local media about his stern demeanor during Tuesday's practice. He spent a good deal of the nearly 2-hour session drilling home how important Montana's two upcoming games against the Vandals and the Eagles are. If the players' response was any indication, his message was received.

"These two teams have a winning record, they have good guys, veterans that played in the system before so they know what a Big Sky game is like and how to finish games," said guard Walter Wright. "Us going against these guys is pretty much going to tell us where we stand right here, that?s why he?s so urgent in practice."

Idaho facing toughest test of season at Montana

Vandals still without Callandret against Grizzlies

--Dugar Daily News

Perrion Callandret's absence was most noticeable during the final 3:35 of last Thursday's win over Northern Arizona, when the Idaho men's basketball team nearly watched it's double-digit lead evaporate.
An almost identical stretch occurred during Saturday's overtime loss to Southern Utah, when the Vandals produced just two field goals over the final 3:42 without Vic Sanders. That 85-83 defeat was a disappointing end to the Vandals' first Big Sky Conference homestand.
