To send you negative emails after a tough week shows what lack of charecter they possess.

Your column is much appreciated.

Try tough last 2 years. It just goes to show that even the most well resepected and informative gambler can have a a very difficult time making money. If anyone is doing this for a living it is a high possibilty they will run into a long losing streak. As far has Nolan`s insight into the games and his column I think he does a
thoughtful job and actually bets his money on his picks

No if you run into long losing streaks, and you do this for a livining then you are a poor money manager, and this is not about nolan he is writing a column.

But if you do this for your income and run into a bad week or 4 straight days. You take some time off and regroup. Thats the difference.

I am sure nolan has not lost every game he has posted ,he writes a column for the site, when he has personal cold streaks i am quite sure he would cut back knowing he is a handicapper not a gambler ,there is a big difference.

I have to respond. If this is being discussed in the NFL forum I wouldn't even know because I haven't read that board in a few days but if there are indeed people sending Nolan e-mails criticizing his views of a game, then they are the most idiotic jackasses in addition to being lightweight. I would call them some pussies but I'm trying to watch my language around here.

Nolan is invaluable to this site. He has more football insight on one thumb than the remainder of these blowhard critics combined, yet every week we have these dihkless wonders that come over here and try to stir the pot because of their incapabilities to cap a game. Nolan has my respect because he offers substance over schtick. He doesn't come on here and beat his chest over a win or whine about a loss after a game like I see everyday from numerous posters. Still, he gets ran down for offering his insight and opinion...unbelievable!

Bottom line is that Nolan has balls, talent, and a track record. All of you analytical critics are a cancer to a good thing. Now leave!

people get pissed b/c they have no clue what they are doing, and they are trying to catch a free ride........if they would do their own damn work they wouldnt have to worry about Nolans record

I read Nolan's column every day... I do not always play his picks but i find great insights and knowledge in his columns, which i can incorporate into my own handicapping.

We all need to support each other... this is a hard fight...(money management & wagering)

Keep up the good work Nolan..:)

Thanks for all the nice words, everyone. I have always maintained that MadJacks is a TEAM effort. I have learned a great many things about games, teams, and handicapping form others at this site who post to the Forum. Hopefully, I have also pprovided a few interesting ideas so far as handicapping goes.

Handicapping is an ongoing educational process. You never say, I'VE MADE IT! I'M A SUCCESSFUL HANDICAPPER! Once you do that, you're history. It's like Hollywood, you should never read your own press clippings.

I will continue to write about and reasearch sports handicapping methods and I will post my thoughts (some right, some wrong) about the games. It's available for people to take or leave. In fact, if critics want to bet against the plays, that's fine too.

So far as me gambling in the games, I can assure you that I average $200-300 per bet for football. I almost always bet the games I recommend (sometimes I back off because of a bad line move or a late report). I also make a lot more bets that are not posted. EXAMPLE: I had Tampa in the 1H at +2.5 and Tampa in the 2H at +3 and cashed both bets. I did not have time to post the plays to the message board, but I do what I can. Not that it makes any difference, but I have made money betting on games this year (all sports combined) which is directly due to some fine work by others here at the site (I have played some of NDNFAN's basebal picks when he was hot, MadJack, Fletcher, IE's hockey plays, some of Nicks dogs, and many other cappers picks who forgive me but I can't rememeber all the contributions of so many).

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

So Cal
Nolan's columns are knowledgable and entertaining. Anytime you write to the public with an opinion, you can be sure that you will always be villified by a select few. I doubt that Nolan takes these nut cases seriously. His contributions are a big asset to this or any other outlet. If you scan his columns strictly for his selections, you are missing the best part. I look forward to all his new writing and I am sure that the vast majority of MJ players feel the same way.

Thanks for your efforts Nolan

Have you noticed Nolan Joe Lupo is 3-0 in his picks of the week?

Also, for those who are bashing you I bet its due to the fact that they wagered their last penny in their bank account. Why else would they be so mad?

If they are a REAL gambler, if such a thing exists, they would know they would have to handle a loss just as much as a win.

After reading Nolan's postings I felt it was only right to e-mail him and tell him that those who complained or made un-warranted comments were and are to#?ers. When will people learn that this game is not about what happens to results over 3 weeks or even 3 months, it is what happens over the whole period. What is the whole period, well its from the time you start to the time you finish. 3 weeks may be 1/1000th of that period.
I know I am rambling on but it does appear there are certain people who do not understand what wagering/betting for profit is on the whole. If they don't then can I suggest that they stop betting and find some other form of giving money away, like donating their monies to charities as they get nothing in return from them either.
We all know that Rome was never built in aday, well these people obviously think it was because they want instant success.
I have only been a poster on the boards for a few weeks and have found comments helpful and informative. Nolan is not telling us to back his informed opinion, it is as most people have said "IT'S AN OPINION". Regardless if it's free or theirs a charge. Give Nolan a break, it's only week3, he would be the first to admit that capping hasn't gone to plan how he would have hoped, but let's not forget that there's still three months left of NFL and things change in a shorter time than that.
Those of you who e-mailed Nolan having a moan, you should know better and have more respect :nono:

Gutless Wonders

Gutless Wonders

Nolan is a class guy who works his butt off writing his free column for all of us. He puts it out there for the public, he keeps accurate records, he explains his reasoning and his angles. And I remember a couple of years ago that he probably made all of us a nice piece of change if we were following his plays because he had a hell of a year.

Those people who bash him via e-mail have neither courage nor integrity and lack any maturity whatsoever. They will be separated from their money by the nearest bookmaker and that is just as it should be for they are weak.

Thanks Nolan. I look forward to reading your column every week and I'm glad that you're not letting these clods get under your skin. It just demonstrates once more that you are a true professional.

Nolan is one of the writers on Mj's that I try and read as often as possible. There's always an angle, that I didn't think of , in his column.
What the losers that are ripping Nolan need to do is, look in the mirror and say: " I'm a big boy (or girl)now. I can make up my own mind." If they repeat that saying 10,000 times maybe they'll take responsibility for their own actions. I think that's what our great country is all about, Free-thinking.:thefinger moon1
