It is going to be an annual event. I already have the guys, just wondering what you guys think of my ideas, and am I missing anything?

250 buy in.. How long can I expect 10 player tourney to last.
Is that to little or too much?

Should we have a dealer or just deal ourselves?
Going to have topless waitresses, so maybe a topless dealer.
would pay 3rd 500
2nd 750
1st 1250
Is this a good prize structure?
It is going to be an annual thing I hope so Going to get shirts made and a trophy.

Probably run a 50/50 to cover food and drink and entertainment.
Anyhelp would be appreciated.

How quickly it goes will depend on how quickly you raise the blinds.

If you start with T1000 in chips, and T10/T20 (T indicates "tournament value", $250 gets you T1000 for instance) and increase the blinds every hour, you should have a good long tournament with a lot of play. Maybe 8 hours. Maybe more.

If you start with T50/T100 and increase every half hour you'll have a 90 minute tournament probably.

You might want to skim off the $250 to pay for food/girls, unless you're sure the 50/50 will get you there. But let the people knwo in advance. Or even tell them that whatever you don't make in a 50/50 will come out of the prize pool.

I wouldn't think you'd have to get a dealer. That's just more dough. But if you have palyers you can't trust, you'd probably want to.

Easiest thing to do would be to go to an on-line site that plays no-limit games and watch a tournament, see how long it takes,, when they raise the blinds, etc.. Some places raise the blinds every 20 mins or so, others raise after every 10 hands, I prefer the latter. Getting a dealer is the best way to go for EVERYONE involved, trust me on this one. When there is any significant amount of money involved you don't want any problems about the way a hand is dealt. I have played in 5/10 games where fights have broken out over the way a hand was dealt.

Smash , I was impressed when I met you at the superbowl party and your stock just goes up with every post i see ! Great Idea dude have fun ! A question , are you playing ? Regardless , One word of advice : Have a set of rules posted for all to see & if your playing have a neutral guy there to mediate disputes . As I'm sure your aware : money makes people do funny things . I've witnessed some ugly scenes in vegas regarding whether a guy said call or raise , whether his cards hit the dead pile (thus voiding his hand) etc etc etc... I raise this point NOT knowing who's playing, only that it would be sad if someone felt like they got cheated on a decision that cost them the money and decided to "drop a dime" on you . Anyway , its an "ounce of preperation , pound of cure kinda thing " . Have a blast .

I have been hosting an annual hold 'em tournament for four years now, but the stakes are a lot less. We have a 25 player maximum. 5 tables of 5 players. Winner of each goes to final table. I can send you the list of rules we use if you would like. We always deal ourselves because everyone knows each other. $10 from everybody's buy-in buys the keg and food (usually a pizza or a large party sub or two). The sub is better because you HAVE to take a break with pizza or the cards get killed.

Get my email address from Jack if you want that rule sheet.

Good luck! I was the first person out last year which worked well, so I could settle any disputes.
