thescore.ca is reporting that Mikael Tellqvist will start in goal tonight for the Leafs and they recalled Jamie Hodson from the AHL to be the back-up. Should be interesting with no Kidd or Belfour. Tellqvist makes his first NHL start. Mogilny should return tonight as well.

i was thinking that Phi could be even money +100 ????

not so lucky i guess, if Phi gets their usual +30 shots
they score 4-5 for sure. Toronto has allowed 29.5 shots
/ game this season and 33 in last five ( PHI in last five has
avg. 32.6 shots and 3.60 goals )

just don't see Tor scoring more than 2 goals, and oh yes;
has any one EVER heard about SWEDISH top goalie ???

i thought so too :thefinger .

from a homer, just playin devil's advocate.

flyers went scoreless for 8+ periods before simon gagne put 1 in and added a helper to get the flyers the 2 - 1 win against the leafs.

all 3 games were against eddie "where ya been" belfour.

checkmanek in goal for those games, as well as in net tonite.

flyers have a habit of making some goaltenders into super stars. see last years playoffs for starters. how many unders in that carolina series ? and ottawa too ?? not sure aboot the sens. ND ?

local tv sports show comes on at 5pm est. will post more when and if anything is available.

just me, but i checked the leafs last nite, but no line.

if ya take the flyers i would lay the juice, and if leafs takem on the puckline. could b a tie ??

what aboot the total at 5 1/2 u at even money ?? sucker bet ??

laying that 1/2 puck out there for ya to choke on.

3 - 3 final ????

back later

Solid points ace! Let us know if anything else catches your eye.

Pet - How about the kid who was drafted 2nd overall by ATL this year. He played at World Juniors for Finland as well. He looks to be a good one. Hurme was great here in Ott. I hated to see him go. GL

Philadelphia Flyers (26-11-8-1) at Toronto Maple Leafs (25-17-4-1)

(Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs try to extend their home unbeaten streak to 14 tonight when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to Air Canada Centre.

Toronto is 12-0-1 in its last 13 home matches, dating back to a 2-1 loss to Detroit on November 16. The run marks the longest of its kind for the Leafs since 1970-71 when they didn't lose at Maple Leaf Gardens for 14 straight. The franchise record for a home unbeaten streak is 19, during the 1953-54 season.

The Maple Leafs have won three-in-a-row overall, including Saturday's 3-2 overtime decision in Montreal. Nik Antropov provided the heroics 56 seconds into the extra session. Travis Green and Robert Reichel also scored, while Trevor Kidd finished with 28 saves before leaving in the third with a groin injury.

Rookie goaltender Mikael Tellqvist took over in his first-ever NHL appearance and stopped 9-of-10 shots. The Leafs were without All-Star Ed Belfour, who is nursing back spasms and very doubtful for tonight. There's a good chance that Tellqvist will get his first NHL start against the Flyers, as Kidd is questionable to even dress.

Elsewhere on the injury front, winger Alexander Mogilny is questionable due to a foot injury that has sidelined him for two games.

Toronto will visit Buffalo on Friday.

Philadelphia, which has won nine of its last 10 overall, posted a 4-2 win over the host New York Rangers on Sunday for its third straight triumph. Michal Handzus scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period as the Flyers bounced back from a 2-0 deficit. Keith Primeau, with two goals, and Simon Gagne also tallied, while Roman Cechmanek turned aside 31 shots.

Handzus netted his 14th goal of the season, and extended his points streak to six games (4g, 4a). Carrying in a five-game personal run will be winger Donald Brashear (1g, 4a), who assisted on the winning marker.

During their 10-game spurt to start 2003, the Flyers have scored 35 goals, while allowing 21. They've managed five power-play tallies in 31 attempts over that span, and have successfully quelled 31 of 33 penalty killing situations.

Philadelphia, which leads the Atlantic Division by one over New Jersey with 61 points, has won its last five road games. The Flyers will host the New York Islanders on Friday.

Toronto is 2-1 against Philly this season, and 3-2-1 in the last six meetings. The Flyers are 0-1-1 in their last two trips to Air Canada Centre.

who will step in and provide Offense with the loss of justin williams ?? he had a good start of the new year.

yes, Kari Lehtonen he is one of the best goalies that i have ever seen. only problem so far is that he has been playing only with best teams so far, so i would think that he needs quite a lot help
from defence. unlike Hurme who really can steale a game by him self ( just ask Dallas fans ), Ahonen is like Hurme with Haseks
virtuosity.

from other site by birlington:

"Including this season and last season there have been 17 first career starts.

Record is 11-4-1-1 for the new goalies.

An overwhelming trend to the team with the rookie goalie."

and

"5.3 is the average score per game

5 goals or less 10 times
6 goals 1 time
7 goals or more 6 times "

don't know are these correct but it's interesting.

Great stuff, Pet! That's one of my favorite angles in baseball to play, but have not been tracking it in pucks. Looks like it's a winning angle in pucks, too. I'm passing on this game, though. Only saw Tellquist play 18min in the Habs game, just don't know enough about him to make a play.
