Y'all Gold Bugs claim that "fiat", ie, paper money is a disrupting factor, leading to depressions and devaluation of the currency.

So, how do you explain these facts:

The USA was on the gold standard, gold coins interchangeable with paper, until 1933.

The 24 worst depressions in our history occurred while we were on the gold standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recessions_in_the_United_States

The worst depression in our history occurred while we were on the gold standard.

Those are FACTS, gents.

The strongest economies in the world today? How many are on some metallic standard? Zero.

So, take your Harry Browne, Lumi, Ron Paul, Steve Forbes and ssd bullshit and fertilize your tomato plants.

Manure is manure.

Continue to jerk yourselves off if you like.

I am not a goldbug, Muff but thanks for the label - I know you LOVE to hand out neat little, usually derogatory, labels.

I am actually short GOLD, using the GLL etf from around $1700 an ounce.

What Forbes says, to me anyway, makes sense.

Maybe it does not for YOU - but the article was of interest to ME so i posted it.

As for the worst economi c depressions / recessions in history.....HA - you ain't seen nothing yet. The Great Depression will be seen as MILD after the Keynesian Bubble bursts.

30+ years of drunken, unabated reckless spending and borrowing by Western Civilization will end badly for everyone. Oh, they will twist and squirm and scheme and inflate and print and try everything to delay the inevitable but it's gonna end badly.

Typical tool of a goldbug - predict Armageddon.

Perhaps you care to revisit our debt/GDP ratio at the end of WWII. Did it produce a depression worse than the great depression?
