this was good -- for a visual person like myself.

even though was already aware of the imbalance, was kinda deflating in seeing, knowing you reallly can't do anything in probably 4 lifetimes to even begin to bring back to reasonable levels

Very interesting and good video. The reality is that the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. There is no American "dream". If you have money, you can invest and make more money. If you are scraping by with little to no equitable wealth, there is little you can do to improve your lot in life. Sure, there are a few stories of rags to riches, but that is far from the norm.

I can't believe people actually take this to mean something. This kind of thinking is so perverted and specious. Inequality means virtually nothing. You can keep raising the "poverty line" all you want; but this fact remains - the average person in this country is living a higher quality life than almost any other upper class people have been living at any other time. The likes of Steve Jobs may be off the chart wealthy, but he has also made it so even the "poor" are all carrying around amazing gadgets in their everyday life. Wealth doesn't just exist in nature to be doled out equally to all beings. You have to get the wealth from creation... this is something that socialists have a hard time grasping. The record of history is crystal clear on this - economic freedom means wealth for ALL. The average lot of the average person has become MUCH greater under this form of living, than any other form.
I could argue about this all day, but unfortunately I don't have time, so I will give you a few other pieces to read instead of some garbage video that cherry picks stats and makes it sound like the RICH are evil and the "poor" have some right to other people's money. Nothing makes me crazier than thinking like this.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

The only thing that is going to make us all worse off, is government... by crushing innovation and taxxing away productivity. Be careful what you wish for, because soon there won't be anywhere to steal the wealth from, and then everyone can be poor. Yay!

For those that don't like to read, listen to Milton Friedman...

Capitalism is the only system in the world that has produced wealth. The rich got rich through capitalism. There are thousands and thousands of stories of people who went from poor to rich in this country.

It is harder today, and that is because the government is inflating everyone's savings away via money printing. We no longer operate in true capitalism... it is crony capitalism dictated by the lobbyists and "friends" of the political class.

Coming from a rich narcissistic white male, I would say that this statement has little to no meaning:

?Inequality means virtually nothing.?

If you are black, female, or poor, then you know that inequality means a lot in our country. Yes, blacks and women still do get paid less than their average counterpart. But I suppose, that is all part of the grand scheme of capitalism.

I?m not comparing the wealth of the average American to the wealth of the world. That is a whole different discussion. I am not arguing for socialism. But to say that there is not inequality and that economic freedom means equal access to wealth for all is not true. Whatever some white male economist said in your business class doesn't carry much weight for the day to day life of minorities and people who work overtime just to pay bills.

?The Blessing of Inequality?, lol! Yea, that is a great article. Here is a great quote from it: ?Government aid just worsens the problem by allowing a corrupt government to linger.? Right... So any government that wants to aid the poor is corrupt? Screw the people who don't have health care - just let them die. The poor uneducated people need to figure out a better way to be innovative and ?CREATE? wealth.

Unless you have been on the outside looking in, I don?t care what some book or economist says. There are so many reasons that people are ?poor?, and to just overlook all of those and say that they just aren?t innovative enough or can?t create their own wealth is ridiculous.

?This kind of thinking is so perverted and specious.? ?Garbage video.? You are such a nice guy, Jord. Just a thrill to discuss things and interact with. You treat people so kindly.

No one in this thread ever said that the poor have some right to the rich?s wealth, or that the rich are evil. Don?t project your own feelings about yourself onto what others said about a video that depicts factual statistics.

Anyone who watches that video and doesn't admit to their being a problem is immoral and lacks basic ethics. There is nobody that is worth 400 times another human being. It is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself.

ad hominem arguments do nothing for me. I don't get what me being a nice guy or not has anything to do with this. and I don't agree that you have to be black, female, or underprivileged to write about inequality or have opinions about it. I would prefer to stick to the argument of wealth then get into any personal attacks.

My quote of Inequality means nothing is of course referring to the posted video. I didn't think that had to be reiterated. It really doesn't matter (it actually usually helps) if the rich are getting richer, if everyone's quality of life is improving. no? And if no, and if you don't advocate stealing other people's wealth... what do you propose? Again, i think the facts of history stand up to any other idea you come up with.

Anyway, I am not sure what you are arguing... just that it "sucks" that certain people make a lot more money than other? Or that it is not "fair?"

I do think this video is garbage, because it doesn't really make a relevant point. In my opinion, it just tries to flood people's heads with some idea that we need more "wealth equality." IN MY OPINION (I use that in bold, because you seem to like to point out that I am a bad guy when I state opinions), it is perverted because, in my opinion (well and using history and economics as a guide), it is going to make EVERYONE worse off.

And yes, governments wanting to "aid" the poor has ALWAYS made countries poorer and worse off, whatever their intentions may be.

of course...jord20 was automatically initiated into the white male patriarchy at birth..and thereby guaranteed a job as an oil company exec...... ..

So let's hear it from Jord - were you born with a silver spoon in your hand and given a good education, or were you born to uneducated parents on welfare and created all your own wealth :0corn

Amazing, kneifl agrees!

Let's hear an agreement from someone who is not white, male, or rich.

Of course. Assuming just because I am white, that I was granted some immunity to economic hardship.

Actually, I am a Jew, and my family has a pretty disgusting history of shit done to us because of that fact. And my grandparents grew up penniless.

Again, this has NOTHING to do with the facts at hand, just an FYI.

Isn't this what created the great inequality in the first place? The rich make and change the rules to protect their wealth and diminish the lower classes 'wealth.

I don't get how this matters. Most rich, spoon fed people I know all turn out to be do-gooder liberals try to make a point to want to steal other people's shit and give it to other people.

Let's try and stick to the facts and not get into who the argument comes from.
