MLB.com reports "Right-hander Carlos Torres was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to start Game 2 of the doubleheader. He was 7-7 with a 3.41 ERA for Charlotte. He pitched in eight games, five of them starts, last season for the White Sox."
ESPN reports: "Torres, 27, pitched in eight games (five starts) with the White Sox in 2009, going 1-2 with a 6.04 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings pitched.....This year, he ranks third in the International League in strikeouts (122) and innings pitched (129 1/3) and eighth in ERA (3.41). Torres, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, will wear No. 52."
Daily Herald reports: "He is 7-7 with a 3.41 ERA (49 ER/129.1 IP), 122 strikeouts and a .222 (103-464) opponents average in 22 games (20 starts) with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder has gone 5-2 with a 2.54 ERA (23 ER/74.0 IP) in his last 12 starts... He has been named International League Pitcher of the Week on three occasions (April 8-11, May 31-June 6 and June 21-27), becoming the ninth player in league history to win the award three times in a single season."
futuresox scouting report:
"Torres is a three pitch pitcher who features a fastball, curve and change. The fastball is Torres bread and butter, not because of the velocity, which is good (90-93), but because of the movement. Torres? best fastball is his cutter but he also features a 2-seam and 4-seam fastball. This enables Torres to effectively run his fastball in on righties and away on lefties which helps set-up his curve, which along with his cutter is his strikeout pitch on righties. His change is a very effective pitch on lefties. "
Bleacher report's Stoltz sez:
"Scouting-wise, Torres throws a good low-90's cutter and a decent changeup, and he'll occasionally mix in a slider. He locates all his pitches well, keeps the ball down, and gets a lot of grounders."
.........
Torres has been on the 40 man roster all season and took Threets's roster spot (who was put on DL). Torres is expected to be sent down after today's game to make room for left-hander Chris Sale, the Sox's first-round pick in the June amateur draft. Sale is expected to make his MLB debut out of the bullpen like Mark Buehrle.
