Washington/Michigan
Great game to start off the full weekend schedule. This game was just as even as the score indicates. Michigan out yarded the Huskies 407-391 and the first downs were even at 20. The Michigan D held Washington to 85 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.5 ypc).
Kansas/Iowa St.
Complete domination by the Cyclones with a very balanced attack ? 275 yards rushing and 236 yards passing. Iowa St. held Kansas to 71 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Colorado/Colorado St.
Colorado out gained the Rams 369-320 but turnovers hurt them. RB Chris Brown fumbled the ball 3 times and the Rams scored on a late Van Pelt run to put them up for good.
Nevada/Washington St.
Nevada held the first down advantage 19-18 and were only out gained by 82 yards. Nevada had the ball at the Cougar 2 yard line with under 7 minutes left down 24-7 but gave up an interception for a TD breaking the game wide open. Nevada nearly doubled the time of possession 39:15-20:45.
Northwestern/Air Force
Air Force ran for 474 yards, led by QB Chance Harridge in his first start. He ran the option great and the Wildcats had no answers on either side of the ball as they were held to only 198 total yards.
Illinois/Missouri
Missouri held Illinois to 71 yards rushing on 31 carries and QB Brad Smith had a great debut for the Tigers with 133 passing yards and he also rushed for 135.
Virginia/Florida St.
Certainly hope Al Groh knows whom to start next week vs. South Carolina. Matt Schaub came in and threw for 247 yards on 19-25 and 3 TD?s. Yes it was mop up time but good numbers nonetheless. FSU defense looked like that of years past holding the Cavs to 62 yards rushing (1.9 ypc).
Baylor/Cal
Cal scored the first 35 points and never looked back. They only out gained Baylor by 63 yards but won by 48 points. They intercepted Cicero 3 times, 2 for TD?s and the other led to a TD. Looks like the 6th year senior will be riding the pine next week.
Wyoming/Tennessee
Complete domination by the Vols. 26-12 FD, 467-187 total yards and 38:32-21:28 TOP. A good balanced attack with 279 yards passing and 188 yards rushing. The D allowed only 43 yards rushing.
Vanderbilt/Georgia Tech
Vanderbilt was held to only 9 first downs mainly because they were 1-13 on 3rd down. The Jackets had 471 total yards in A.J Suggs debut at QB.
East Carolina/Duke
The streak is over. Duke held ECU to 145 total yards and benefited from 4 Pirate turnovers. Reserve TB Alex Wade ran for 120 yards for the Blue Devils.
UAB/Florida
The Gators amassed 643 total yards against one of the toughest defenses in 2001. UAB lost 9 starters from that unit that gave up only 266 ypg last year. It could be a long year for the Blazers.
Mississippi St./Oregon
Kevin Fant?s suspension definitely hurt the Bulldogs and Jason Fife led a very balanced offensive attack for Oregon. He threw for 166 yards and 3 TD?s and ran for another.
Navy/SMU
5 turnovers killed the Mustangs as they were out gained by only 73 yards and had a 20-18 first down advantage. Navy QB Candeto rushed for 153 yards and passed for 106 giving former Georgia Southern coach Paul Johnson his first win.
Clemson/Georgia
Very even game statistically and both defenses stuffed the run very well. Clemson fumbled the ball 6 times but was able to recover it each time.
Oklahoma St./Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech Scored two 4th quarter TD?s to pull out the win. The Bulldogs held a 486-382 total yard advantage and 25-17 first down advantage and scored the last 21 points.
Maryland/Notre Dame
The Irish defense held Maryland to 8 first downs and only 133 total yards. Although ND had 356 total yards, they were unable to find the endzone. Their lone touchdown came on a 76-yard punt return. Nick Setta looks like a solid kicker as he make 5 field goals including one from 51 yards.
Houston/Rice
The Cougars held the normally potent Rice rushing attack to 188 yards, while gaining 305 yards on the ground themselves. The held the ball for just under 39 minutes.
Wisconsin/UNLV
The game was called early due to a power outage. Wisconsin only out gained UNLV 349-305 but the Rebels lost 3 fumbles and had 2 interceptions. Jason Thomas looks like his shoulder is still bothering him as he completed only 12 of 26 passes.
Central Florida/Penn St.
Central Florida out gained the Lions 410-347 and had more first downs 24-20 but most of this came late in the 4th quarter. They scored 2 late TD?s when the game was already decided that added 143 yards to their total.
Akron/Iowa
Iowa scored 37 first quarter points and never looked back. They gained 366 yards on the ground with an average of 8.3 ypc. Charlie Frye looked good for the Zips completing 21 of 29 passes for 229 yards and 2 scores.
Middle Tennessee St./Alabama
The Raiders spotted the Tide 22 points and just fell short on their comeback bid. Trailing 32-27, Andrico Hines threw an interception that was returned 41 yards for a TD. MTSU had 5 more first downs and 19 more total yards in the losing effort.
Eastern Michigan/Michigan St.
The Spartans had 625 total yards and held Eastern Michigan to only 54 yards rushing. The Eagles were forced to punt 12 times.
Connecticut/Boston College
Boston College went through the motions in the first half before putting the game away late. They held the Huskies to 41 yards rushing and Derrick Knight ran for 100 yards for the Eagles.
Troy St./Nebraska
Special teams once again vaulted the Huskers to a win as Dejaun Groce ran 2 punts back for TD?s. The Trojans had more total yards 347-313 and only 1 less first down.

The Indians were only out gained by 45 yards but 2 turnovers that were returned for touchdowns did them in.

Texas A&M held the Cajuns to 11 yards on the ground (.5 ypc). The one negative for the Aggies were 16 penalties for 102 yards.
LA Monroe/Mississippi
The Indians took a 3-0 lead and held the Rebels scoreless until the second quarter. Manning was sub par going 16-30 for 188 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. The Indians were only 3-16 on 3rd down.
New Mexico St./South Carolina

The Mean Green returned all 11 offensive starters from last year, but couldn?t get any points on the board. They did hold Texas to only 28 yard rushing, benefiting from 51 sack yards.

The Broncos amassed 503 yards of total offense and Dinwiddie completed 18 of 23 passes for 259 yards and a TD. Brian Lindgren played decent in a losing effort, completing 25 of 40 passes for 2 TD?s and 2 interceptions.
