New Laws and Regulations: A Major Focus of The Fifth Annual International Symposium on Internet Gambling Law and Management

LARCHMONT, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2001--New laws and regulations will be a major focus of the Fifth Annual International Symposium on Internet Gambling Law and Management, sponsored by Mary Ann Liebert publishers (www.liebertpub.com) and presented by BioConferences International (www.bioconferences.com) to be held Nov. 25-27 at the Shelbourne hotel in Dublin, Ireland.

"This year has been a landmark one for Internet gaming legislation and regulation," says Patricia Hogan, conference director. "In the United States, Nevada passed a law allowing current operators of land-based casinos to apply for Internet gaming licenses while at the Federal level, Congress continues to flirt with laws prohibiting Internet gaming. In Australia, the federal government passed a moratorium and then anti-Internet gaming legislation overturning the legalization by the various states and territories. Indeed, it's been a year of unprecedented activity on the legal front."

In addition to focusing on new laws and regulations, the conference will also examine fast-growing markets such as Asia and Latin America, new competition from land-based gaming companies and even companies outside the industry like Playboy, and new technologies such as streaming, border control, and wireless.
