SOUTH BEND, Ind. The Notre Dame men's basketball team began the season hoping to make the N-C-A-A Final Four, but the selection committee put that wish out of reach.
The Fighting Irish yesterday learned they'll play in the National Invitation Tournament and now hope to make it to that final four.

Irish senior guard Chris Thomas says the bright side is that the N-I-T still gives them a shot at a championship.

The Irish will host Holy Cross at seven p-m tomorrow and Coach Mike Brey says the Crusaders remind him of a Big East team because they're physical with experienced guards.

He says his team is mentally ready and won't play with disappointment.

But they're worrying about whether their second-leading scorer will play. Chris Quinn bruised his right clavicle last week. Brey says he'll be a game-time decision.
