Is Pitt a better team than Ohio State?

Since the most likely BCS Championship game is Miami vs OSU, do you think Pitt is a better team than OSU? Tonights game has made me rethink the proposition that Miami would blow out OSU, Canes defense vs the run was pathetic. With the Buckeyes three deep backfield and high percentage passing, I just wonder if OSU could knock them off?

Well BCS title games have become like Super Bowls in that they turn into blowouts.

Line would likely be Miami -7 maybe -10, I'd be inclined to lay the points vs OSU.

Miami vs OU would be a great matchup and I really think Alabama could beat Miami. THeir strangth plays into Miami's weakness even better and their defense is awesome.

I would love to see Mich knock off OSU, I am in no way a Buckeye fan. I just dont see it happening at home, Wolve's kicking game will be their downfall.

Wouldn't the Rutgers or FSU games make everyone rethink how good Miami is? This obviously isn't a dominant team that can walk out on the field and name the score like a bunch of people tend to believe.

Wouldn't the Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois or Cincinnati games make everyone rethink how good Ohio Stink is? This obviously isn't a dominant team that can walk out on the field and name the score like a bunch of people tend to believe.

I live right in between the two schools, closer to Pitt, so I have seen a lot of them both.

They are very similar teams. Both have very strong defenses, especially against the run, with somewhat weak secondaries. Both have solid, fast linebackers.

On offense, they are both grind it out sort of teams, with Pitt going for the big play a little more often.

However, the edge has to go to Ohio State for a few reasons:

1) QB--Krenzel is 3 times the qb of Rutherford. He makes zero mistakes and is a more accurate passer. Rutherford may be a little more dangerous out of the pocket, but not much. If Pitt had a better qb they beat Miami su. The underthrow in the third quarter was absurd, he had the guy beat by twenty yards and the ball was underthrown by 25. And the fumble didn't help either. The last play of the game wasn't a bad read, but to throw an uncatchable pass on fourth down with the game on the line is absurd.

2) RB--If Clarett is healthy, (a big if) OSU has a big advantage over Pitt.

3) Special Teams--OSU may have the best punter in the country. He puts inside the 20 everytime. He doesn't know what a touchback is. The fg kicker (name?) made like 20 some straight before last weeks misses.

Conclusion..

Ohio State is the better team than Pitt, but not by much. I think they can give Miami a run, if they get by Michigan (big if). Clarett will have seven weeks to heal up before the Fiesta Bowl and much like Pitt did, OSU will control the ball the whole game. If Miami doesn't get the big plays they had tonight they lose.

Right. Tremendous streak, one of the greatest in college football history. But to think that this years team is as good as the previous two is absurd.

Miami will roll over Ohio State if they meet up, the speed and diverse attack that Miami brings to the table is not something that Ohio State has seen in the Big Ten. As far as Pitt being a better team than Ohio State, I dont think that would be a huge stretch, they play in a better conference and have played a much tougher schedule than has Ohio State.

People are thinking this is last year's Miami team and even the 2000 edition. Both those teams were definitely stronger than this year's model. To me the most impressive thing about Miami isn't speed or athleticism; they just don't make the stupid mistakes all the other teams make (like Pitt roughing the passer on 3rd and long to keep the drive alive).

It seems fashionable to rip on Ohio State and I'm not really sure why. I'm not a OSU fan so I'm not biased but that D is pretty tough and with Clarett, they WILL be able to impose their running game on the Canes. A double digit spread would be a gift. What has Miami done that is so great?? Tennessee is decimated by injuries and Florida is way down from previous years. They beat FSU by one point at home and this isn't FSU's strongest team either. One other thing, Miami is 10-0 (9-0 if you count only Div 1 opponents), not thirtysomething and 0. Whatever happened in 2000 and 2001 is irrelevant to this years team.

I loved biased responses, so here is mine.

Georgia should be the number 1 team in the country. They would kick everybody's ass up and down the field.

(except Florida, of course)--But Miami, Ohio St., blah, blah blah, wouldn't stand a chance.

And that goes for Michigan, too! :moon: :D

Ohio State would have at least three losses if they played in the SEC, the Big Ten has been weak for years. Does anyone know if this Ctownguy is the same guy that calls Jim Rome and says he is going to have lunch with the monkey? That tape Rome made of him is hilarious and this guy sounds like him
