Is the GOP ready for a gay candidate?

Nationally, as in for president, I don't see it happening.
Locally, it already happens.

My good friend Jason Clark is currently the Republican candidate for the California State Assembly in District 17 (eastern half of San Francisco). If he wins he will represent half a million Californians in the lower house of the California Legislature. He is gay.

PS He won't win, as he is running against a Democrat incumbent and the district (which I live in btw) is only 8% Republican. Yup 8%.

A more interesting question for me would be "Is the GOP ready for an atheist candidate?"
