This has definitely been the most frustrating year ever for an Illini fan. I can certainly deal with down years but for both the football and basketball teams to come out of the gate like they did and get expectations sky-high only to completely crash and burn is just sickening. Football team was 6-0 to start and didn't pick up their 7th win till the bowl game (where they best a sub-.500 UCLA team). Basketball team was 15-3 to start the year and ended 17-15. Just brutal. It's really sickening to watch a team get worse from game to game instead of better.
As a result, bye bye Zook and bye bye Weber (not to mention bye bye to the AD last summer).
Shaka is the name I heard as well, but if he didn't leave last year fresh off the Final 4 appearance, I have a hard time believing that he'll be chomping at the bit for the Illinois job. ESPN threw out the name Chris Collins (Duke asst coach) but I'm sure it's just baseless speculation based his ties to the Chicago area.
